Gov’t must rescue stranded Ghanaians in Libya – Bluwey

An International Relations expert, Professor Keith Bluwey, has said government owes it a responsibility to rescue stranded Ghanaians in Libya.

According to him, the government is not only expected to protect citizens in the country but also Ghanaians in the diaspora.

His comments follow reports that the fate of hundreds of stranded Ghanaians in Libya hangs in the balance as government has ignored their call for evacuation.

Starr News has learnt that scores of Ghanaian nationals who were caught up in the violent clashes in Libya have died.

The survivors who have been trapped in their homes have been sending SOS messages to government for evacuation.

But Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Thomas Kwesi Quartey told Starr News that the stranded Ghanaian nationals earlier refused to relocate to Egypt to be flown back home.

Quartey added that there is very little the government can do to save them.

But speaking on Starr News Friday, Prof. Bluwey called on the government to do everything possible to rescue those Ghanaians before they are massacred in Libya.

“This is about protection of life,” Bluwey said, adding, “if they say they [government] won’t rescue them, it means they are punishing them."

“Who punishes his own child with death by killing him,” Bluwey queried.
