Ghana was not founded by the Big Six. That is just a fanciful fiction. If others are to be mentioned with KN they would include Gbedemah, Botsio, Kofi Baako and others not the UP folks who fought against independence all the way but now want credit for it.

Whether you call it FOUNDING FATHERS' DAY or whatever, the core issue still stands: How do we move forward? The waste of time, resources, and precious brain matter on this is not going to be productive! Now, if we call Nkrumah's Birthday Founders' Day, how many of the Founders were born on that day? Would that make sense? Or is this debate advocating a Neutral Day, perhaps the Independence Day, as the Founders' Day? Then what do we call Independence Day itself? Yes, getting history correct is important but being fixated and pedantic on this while the nation still cries for help is betrayal of the ideals that founded Ghana. Let's move on!

We settled for Founders' day until some treacherous members of the NPP decided to drag the issue up again by saying Nkrumah is not part of the founders' but the Messenger boy who had his journey paid for by the so called 5 others.

In fact, it was only Paa Grant who financed Nkrumah's return and strangely enough, he is not a member of the BIG SIX.

There're other members of the UGCC who were not arrested on the eve of the 1948 riots and hence not part of the so called Founders'.

The whole exercise is symbolic and if not for the treachery to try and demean Nkrumah and relegate him to the background as the errant boy in the UGCC, I would not raise a feather.
The issue is that, yes a lot of people did enough, some like Corporal Attipoe even sacrificed their lives.
The independence generation answered this question not once, not twice, but thrice by voting in their masses for Nkrumah over the other five in the early elections in Ghana.

Prof Ocquaye and the rest will better serve their purpose if they stop trying to distort history and focus on making history paid for our people.

Take the example of the UK, William Shakespeare's hometown( Stratford Upon Avon) has been turned into a great tourists attraction centre bringing millions of pounds to the people all because historians have done all they can to re-enact his plays and have also rebuild and discovered relics of his time.

Shakespeare for his bad verse on the British Establishment is not the most worshiped hero in England but for the sake of future generations, his contributions have been acknowledged however distasteful some found it.

The opposite is true in Ghana, in fact, some of us have kept quiet about the activities of the other five and it would be best served if things stay the same and everyone lets sleeping dogs lie.

Someone tell the Professor to move on and stop his bitterness and we will also let the matter rest.

For instance, lets talk about Black Star's coach Mr. Appiah, when the team did good, he got the credit and when the team performed bad, he got the blame. Lets give Nkrumah the credit he deserves for the role he played as the leader of the group that liberated the Gold Coast and made it Ghana. With all opponents killed, it was left to his own CPP men led by Tawiah Adamafio to do something about the killings in Nsawam Prison.

He made himself President for life without a Vice President and made Ghana a one-party state. CPP was the first to start rigging elections in Ghana. Ironically Nkrumah's children are enjoying freedom of speech which Nkrumah denied the whole nation. Ghana was then a one-man show 'Osagyefo the President'

Constructive criticism is always accepted by those who think objectively, no human being is infallible and no program is sacred, constructive criticism is like a third eye, it affords one the opportunity to reevaluate one's activity, and correct the necessary errors.

Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah/The Great One, leader of CPP/Party of Liberation, were not perfect, they made mistakes, their ranks were infiltrated by Judas' who were working with the external (to the Party,) traitors, who, in league with Africa's external enemies, eventually succeeded in dismantling Ghana's economic base, thereby, reducing Ghana to "Client State" status, today, the same enemy who paid the traitors to create Ghana's economic mess, is now giving Ghanaians a dry mop to clean up the mess.

Osagyefo has been vindicated of the KONKONSA criticism levied against him and the CPP, by those who came after him, since none of them singularly, nor collectively, have come close to matching the level of industrial development that Ghana had experienced under the CPP's Socialist programs.

When CPP nationalized Ghana's resources and industry putting all of Ghana's resources into the hands of the people, The enemy panicked organized traitors to attack and destroy the people's industry, claiming it was Communism, traitors dismantled and sold what they need today to strengthen Ghana's economy, problem is that neither NDC Nor NPP knows what to do, because they are both being dictated to, and controlled by IMF, US And EU's Capitalist formula of grief and suffering.

Ghanaians are trapped between NDC&NPP, two neo-colonial political parties led by mansion building politicians, who are clueless about solving the nation's problems.

The UP people did not pay for Kwame Nkrumahs trip back home. It was Paa Grant who single-handedly formed the UGCC and went out of his way to invite Kwame Nkrumah to come to Ghana to assist the independence movement because the people, JB Danquah and co, who he had earlier invited to be part of his movement were not showing progress or results.

Again, it was Paa Grant who had similarly invited the rest of the members - including Danquah, to join the UGCC. It is known that Danquah would not even attend meetings unless Paa Grant paid his T&T and other expenses.

It is nevertheless true that Nkrumah did not start the independence movement in the Gold Coast. There had been moves by many other Gold Coast nationalists, as far back as the 17th century, who had resisted the colonial dictators in the effort to get rid of their cruelty to Africans.

However in spite of the last minute attempt by Busia, Danquah and co, who flew all the way to to London to request the Queen not to grant independence to the Gold Coast, it was the glorious insistence and strategic out-maneuvering of the colonialists by Kwame Nkrumah that Ghana was able top become an independent nation. Even then, Busia Danquah and co refused to take part in the independence celebrations when invited to do so. Subsequently they also resorted to terrorist activities to undermine the govt and development of the country.

How can any self-respecting country or people, bestow any kind of national recognition on such people as if we dont know our left from right? Some of our people, out of sour grapes or sheer ignorance, can pretend not to recognize those who ultimately made it possible for us to be what we are today - an independent nation. But what we cannot pretend to do is that, we cannot hide or distort the real and indelible facts of our history because whatever you do, the moral truth and the hard facts will always resurface to haunt you.

Mankind is guided for the better, by the useful lessons and trends of history and anyone who refuses to acknowledge the proud and constructive episodes and moments of his own history, will live in dishonorable regret to repeat the mistakes that were made by his/her forefathers.

Everybody knows it that Nkrumah was not a lone fighter for Ghana's independence but he deserves the accolade of Founder. While he and his CPP nationalists were calling for "Self Government Now" J. B. Danquah and his fellow traitors petitioned the Queen that Gold Coast was not ready for independence. Nkrumah and his party succeeded but as the leader it is fair to credit him with their achievements, in the same way as he is held responsible for the failures of his government. To be sure the idea of the founder of Ghana risks reductionism but we can live with it as Nkrumah was the dominant force behind the campaign for independence. In any event, Antwi-Danso could have served Ghana better if he had addressed the economic problems facing the country now than attempting to re-write history.

To the extent that uniting for the cause of advancement have been destroyed to the pooint the not a revolutionary taunting in the 70s ever thought these persons any lessons. That is why professor Ocquaye would prefer a white man founding Ghana than the Ghanaian and Dr Antwi Darko who benefitted fro Dr Nkrumah's educational policy would advocate for founders' day instead of founder's day.
The big picture as well as question is "What does it matter to the ordinary person reeling under poverty in Ghana for decades?"
It really does not make sense to me at all to say the least.

Tribalists and micro-nationalists are not capable of understanding the scope of Osagyefo's political vision, simply because of their narrow mindedness and subjective mind set, as a result, their national heroes are: "colonial Governer Gordon Guggisburg and George Bush". ....HIGHWAY.

Nobody in the entire WORLD recognizes the small five that were attached to the GREAT ONE, whenever I am in the US and Ghana is mentioned, people usually smile and say yes, Kwame Nkrumah is the man, he was a great man, etc. I have never heard anyone mention any of the traitors, ever!

In all honesty, I must say that President Rawlings also became popular abroad because the masses who loved Osagyefo, praised Rawlings for eliminating the traitors. Rawlings, however, failed to live up to expectations, and has lost the popularity that he initially had among the foreign masses.

Founder's day is fine. Nkrumah's name is symbolic of the country's status as a new and independent State. The founding of GHANA in the face of stiff and murderous opposition by the NLM sectionalists was no mean achievement!

Kindly note that Gold Coast was colonized by several European countries till the British colonized it finally,added the Asante and northern territories and put it under one umbrella called British colony still called the Gold Coast. All this while there was agitation by black elite,chiefs and other pressure groups for self governance. Then came the formation of the UGCC, sponsored by the great timber merchant and businessman called Paa Grant who relied the great lawyers at that time to spearhead the agitation for independence. However the man who ignited the fire for our independence and caused the British to finally grant us early independence was Kwame Nkrumah.There was the risk factor of he losing his life for the cause of action he took because the colonial masters wielded power at that time and could have done anything to him however looking at the atmosphere at that time they had no alternative than to surrender the destiny of this country to him because they new he was capable to lead and unite the country. There was a lot of internal descent, but any time the colonial masters called for an election he and his CPP won.(Remember at that time his party was not supervising the elections but the colonial masters were referees for all the initial elections that were organized). so you can't say there was vote rigging for his party. There was no gorilla warfare for independence, but he and the CPP used their organizational ability to win the struggle from the British. In conclusion he became the rallying force to overcome the almighty colonialist, hence just as from one colonial power to the other the British were the last colonial masters and he came to tactically wrestle power from them including the Volta we can conclude that he is the founder of the nation Ghana. We occupy the same land mass from that time to date.Note;others started but he became the final prime mover for independence case close.

Founder’s day is a problem for some people; the same people who tried to obliterate history by burning all documentation and archived history under the pretext of a revolution. After siding with colonial powers over several years because they were not capable of organizing a fitting independence movement, the man steered us to full independence; then during the development and planning phase they plotted several assassination attempts, from Ametewe to Kulungugu, to mention a few, then finally they got him overthrown because the white man did not want us to have the atomic energy at Kwabenya. They have had their time which they spent trying to eat what they had missed all these years and will not stop fighting among themselves. In which part of the world did anybody hear that several people have founded a nation before? It takes several people, but with 1 leader and am afraid you have a foolish fight. The lies are many but you see you couldn’t hide his name.
