Prof, your analysis is unbalanced. Any country has factors that can cause it to implode in civil war, especially in Africa. However, some countries are able to mitigate the risks better. You could only conclude this if you also analyzed Ghana's mitigating factors and concluded that they are weak or non-existent. From where you sit, you are seeing only with one eye. Open your two eyes wide and you will learn that the probability of national-scale civil war in Ghana is very low. Even so, the hand of God is on Ghana. We also thank God for His mercies.

I wonder how people are made professors in Ghana. Some of these professors are a disgrace to the institutions they represent. No wonder their students (products of their efforts) lack analytical and problem-solving skills; some even lack the basic knowledge of their major fields of study. They cannot communicate verbally or in writing. They speak “pidgin” English everywhere. “Professor” Vladimir (or Tymoshenko) shut up and don’t cause any confusion or disturbance in the country.

1. Our institutions must not be arms of Government.
2. Qualified servants must be recruited and not cronies.
3. The underlying causes of conflict must be given attention. We must not exclude a section of the population - it will be harder to forge inclusion post conflict.

Yes forward ever but let us see the signs in communities and the lives of the people NOT in the pockets and accounts of individuals.

The peace council failed miserably and Supreme court did not fare well in the judgement of the election petition. It is evident that majority of Government appointments go to people from the ethnic minorities, who clearly do not have the acumen as the majority Akans. This will boil up at some point and the majority will claim what they worked so hard for. This will happen if there is another clear indication of election rigging

The whole of this week, this guy has been making a lot of noise as part of the 35th anniversary of Limann's government. Sadly, he is only making hollow statements but no sense. He lacks proper understanding of International Relations and Diplomacy to be making all these noise about the subject. Any damn fool is an expert or consultant in Ghana.

Of all have been attributed to him, the only one that is sensible is the Founders' Day instead of Founder's Day. Does he actually understand the word war for him to be talking about it let alone predict that war could easily break out in Ghana? War has a legal definition and what have been happening in some parts of Ghana are not wars but ethnic conflicts over land and chieftaincy matter. Yes, there are tensions in Ghana that could explode especially during election years due to sensational but inaccurate and false media reports. No war will break in Ghana and it is only the President of Ghana who can declare war, unless Ghana is attacked by a foreign country/enemy.

I wonder what this guy is teaching his students of International Relations at Legon.

The premise for his argument is faulty. The Konkomba-Nanumba conflagration was the culmination of long pent up feelings of hatred between the two groups that date back several decades. The laughable assertion that it was a dispute over a guinea fowl that precipitated the conflict is unacademic and defies logic....

That he got away with this silly analysis was because no one at the symposium challenged and shot down his twisted idea that Ghana could implode......Ghana is not on the brink of a civil strife.....Ghanaians know better than to allow some crackpot politician or rabble-rouser to brainwash and goad them into killing each other. The ordeals of Sierra Leone, Liberia and our very next door neighbor, Ivory Coast are still fresh in our minds....

This foolish man only discussed war and inexplicably or is it deliberately forgot to touch on the consequences.....countless and meaningless deaths, economic dislocation and political upheaval...that surely will ensue if Ghana was to explode.....he should axed....fired from his job..... for such incendiary statements.....

Yes we understand that the economic conditions are tough, coupled with corruption at high places, but these alone are not recipe for a civil war. Under Limann's government the condition was worse; we remember Kalabule and gyinabu or whatever, but we didn't go to war. The example you gave about the Kokombas and Nanumbas was about oppression and subjugation of one tribe by the other, ownership of land and other remote causes. That was a tribal war. Most of the civil wars the world has seen have something to do with oppression, dictatorship, no freedom of speech, and to some extent economic deprivation. The hardships now in Ghana can lead to strikes, demonstrations and disobedience, more corruption or military take-over, which will not necessarily lead to civil war. Don't be a prophet of doom, please.

In, Cote d'Ivoire, it was the case of Allasane Ouattara, and in Ghana we are seeing that desire in Akuffo Addo. But whereas in those countries these individuals succeeded in sending their nations to war we have all seen the results in Liberia. Every Ghanaian can bare arms and kill. Killing is not for any group of people or persons. What the so-called Christian Council and the cohorts of the "wee smoking" presidential aspirant to tell him that even if he sends his family abroad, his hometown of Akyem would not be spared should there be civil war. Where Akufo Addo has shown open hatred for Regions that voted against him and being urged on by some so called politicians under the guise of being charismatic pastors and using their podium to promote division. If civil war happens in Ghana it will be to the destruction of all and not only persons of particular tribe. Those who think they have they have the right to kill others should know those tribes are not fools and will fight back. We long ago knew that anytime NPP and its likes are not in power, they believe NOBODY should rule. In such circumstance(when others are in power), they (NPP and their cohorts) do everything overtly and covertly to sabotage the other person in power. That is what is happening currently. Thinking that a war might start in Ghana is wishful. If a resemblance of that would happen it is the people I described above who can start something to take advantage of it and request for power sharing which is on their lips for a very long time. One may asked, what were the development under Kufour, is it not making himself, kith and kins rich at the expense of the government.

That is one of the failings of the Limann Administration, because he would not send troops to the area to quell the war,hoping that the Konkombas were having the upperhand. Limann had a total disdain for the Dagombas and Nanumbas because they were seen as SDF supporters(led by Ibrahim Mahama) and the Konkombas were pro PNP(Limann's Party)

That was why Rawlings in one of his reasons for ousting Prez. Limann capitalized on the civil war as Limann not having control over his party and the nation.

The Konkombas attributed their attack on the Nanumbas, as a build up of anger from years of discrimination, and abuse meted out to them by the Nanumbas, so it really was not an issue of democracy and governance as my friend Antwi Danso wants us to believe.

If Antwi Danso would caution any tribe in Ghana, he had better caution his people who have no better name for Northerners and Ewes but always brand them as "pepefuor" and Ayigbe julors". That was part of what caused the war between the Konkombas
and the Nanumbas.

I know I am going to get a lot of crap from readers, but I want to let them know that I lived the first war because we had to sneak into Wullensi and Bimbilla to get some relations out through bush paths because the truck we sent there was shot at and burnt to ashes.

This is NO LAUGHING matter, so I would expect my friend Antwi Danso to get his facts right.

I am a retired soldier and I personally took part in peace keeping operations in the north when the civil war broke out. this war started from a pito bar where the son to the then late nanumba paramount chief was allegedly stabbed with a knife by another konkomba boy because of a girl both of them were chasing. the secretary to the late paramount chief led nanumba youths to the house of the konkomba boy with the intention to attack him but the konkomba boy used his father's gun and fired at the secretary who fell and died instantly on the spot. this incident prompted the civil war between the two tribes. the nanumbas burnt down houses and belongings of the konkombas at bimbilla and it's environs. the konkombas who had fled from bimbilla into the bush, re-grouped and came back to attack the nanumbas at wulensi ,kpandai, nakpayile and other places. they burnt down a lot of houses belonging to the nanumbas until the military and police despatched operational officers and men to the northern region to save the situation. so please doctor, your claim that the fight erupted because of a guinea fowl is an insult to the northerners who also have intellectuals or scholars like you. although there was a story that two people quarrelled or had a fight over a guinea fowl, that was not the main cause that sparked this large scale war. doctor Vladimir Antwi-Danso should not sit in the comfort of his office and write such annoying story for one enjoys any kind of comfort on the battle field. he should apologise to the people of the north!

In Ghana today, we need no research to know that almost all citizens and non-citizens residing here are doing so much to secure a better future for their children. I hate to say this but I think MILITARY rule is the only government that can maintain order in Ghana. Democracy I think is the best form of government but it appears it's not working well for Ghana. I know people don't agree with me that Ghanaians need a military leader.It's the truth. I am not a fun of Rawlings but at least he was able to maintain order in Ghana for some time until he put his military uniform down then things started getting worst again. Talking about Ghanaians, even animals think better. We are ignorant, we lack common sense, we are greed, jealous and don't obey laws. We are very difficult people to lead. Why are we like that? Even in the jungle where stupidity is attached to fools order is maintained. How much more we humans as Ghanaians? I think our culture is also setting us back because the way we think and the way we do our things is beyond stupidity. Sorry!

I do not see anything wrong with someone saying we should be careful of our actions or it can lead to war. I am glad he said it. You should be glad too. At least he created a discussion that opened the door for us to see how easily war could be started by a careless utterance from people like you and I. Keep reading and writing, one day you all will get(understand) it.

This masqueraded democracy we have in Ghana, is no democracy. It is a game being played by two parties (NPP and NDC)and believing that after every eight years, one party has to give way for the other. Now, it seems, if after being in office for eight years, one party fails to yield for the other party; either by fair elections or not, there will be chaos, uprising and bloodshed. Stop fooling and deceiving yourselves that Ghanaians will never take arms against each other or see civil war the scale of what happened in other African countries like: Liberia, Ivory Coast or Rwanda as the Professor pointed out.

The WEST is strategizing and orchestrating this yet to blossom all-out civil war, amidst their disguised efforts designed to make us believe they are helping us develop. They give us all these unnecessary loans and grants knowing very well that we will not be able to pay them back. They know, we will loot and share what ever is given to us for development without having vision for our development. Pure and simple.

They pitch us against ourselves by creating division and sewing discord amongst us by instigating tribalism in our communities and supporting one party over the other. Divide and conquer, that is the game.

They massively export western civilization with its tainted morals to Africa and the mass uneducated populace buy it with their zeal for instant gratification. Everyone wants to be a STAR and they draw the youths attention away from education. Now in Ghana, people are shying away from speaking with African intonation and blindly copying European and Western accents. Very pathetic indeed if you hear them speak. Speaking with a foreign accent is the vogue. Obtaining a foreign degree is upheld with high esteem. We denegrade people with local degrees and uphold those with foreign degrees, even though these same people with their foreign degrees have nothing to show for, when it comes to "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR YOUR COUNTRY SINCE INDEPENDENCE".

It will come to pass and we will remember the professor was right. But it will be too late then.
