SHAME ON YOU AND GHANAIAN EDUCATION SYSTEM AS A WHOLE. I WENT TO TECHNICAL INSTITUTION IN THE SIXTIES AND FOUND OUT AFTER COMPLETION THAT THERE WAS NO RESPECT AND PROSPECTS IN TECHNICAL/VOCATIONAL EDUCATION IN GHANA I LEFT GHANA TO UK AND U.S. WENT THROUGH SAME TECHNICAL/POLYTECHNIC EDUC. AND FINALLY UNIVERSITY COMPLETED WITH MASTERS DEGREE.IHAVE SINCE TAUGHT IN POLYTECHNICS,COLLEGES OF EDUCATIONS. AND UNIVERSITES IN ABOUT FOUR COUNTRIES.GO TO UK AND U.S. AND SEE HOW TECHNICAL/VOCATIONAL EDUC IS STRUCTURED.ATTENDING THESE INSTITUTION IS BY CHOICE.
  PLEASE LET YOUR EXPERTS GO OUT TO STUDY PLANNING AND DEV. OF TECH./VOC. EDUC. AND TRAINING.MOST OF THE PROGRAMMES THAT ARE DONE IN UNVERSITIES CAN BE DONE IN THE TECHNICAL INSTITUTIONS AND POLYTECHNICS.

  Obviously Ablakwa is too young to remember how Nkrumah got people into KNUST. It all boiled down to INCENTIVES. If you go to Germany, you'll notice that those who take technical courses make more than the average worker. No wonder they have KRUPP, Mercedes, BMW, Siemmens etc.
  In Ghana, the reverse is true. If you want money, all you need is contacts and trade. If you really really want to be filthy rich, then steal from the nation. You are guaranteed no punishment. Some one prove me wrong.

  How many Ghanaians artisans are working outside our borders ?A lot,go to all the heighbouring countries in the sub region and you will be surprised.create opportunities and people will enrol in such vocations.

  Concerted recruitment campaigns and student counsellors should be used at the basic school level to recruit students into technical and vocational institutions. Don't forget that at basic schools students are still "kids" who do not have a clue as to professional opportunities in the business world. Therefore, campaign to recruit students for the professional schools should involve parents, working elder siblings, teachers and student counsellors who can explain the various professional areas and opportunities to the "kids." Students should be taken on career excursions to professional carpentry, steel fabrication, blacksmith, auto mechanic workshops as well as to building sites to see first hand how technicians like electricians, plumbers, masons, steel fixers etc ply their trades. All opportunities for gainful employment and entrepreneurship in the vocations and technical areas should be well articulated to these young students at basic school levels to arouse more interest in these areas.

I have been there before.When you are even lucky to find a job the know nothing Ghanaian engineer will treat you like trash and the unlucky unemployed technician too has his job done by uneducated technicians. People
  say technicians don't speak good english. Ghanaians are very funny. English will never save Ghana from advancements in world economics.Germany, Italy, and some countries have successfully made it through technology not these too much
  emphasis on the English language. Very soon when our natural resources are done, English language will feed us.Let the truth be told.

  Read what GNA reported about what Ablakwa said concerning this same issue and it appears what the Public Agenda is reporting here is highly censored. "....Mr Ablakwa appealed to SHS graduates who did not qualify for the universities to endeavour to get themselves equipped with technical or vocational training as government is ever ready to support them." What I want this baby with sharp teeth to realize is that technical and vocational education is about talent, interest and/or choice and not a graveyard for intellectually poor students. I don't blame Ablakwa for his stack ignorance because he is a product of our useless university system.
