The renovation of this building dates back to the early nineties. Over 20 years and it's still not completed!! What a joke. By the time they finish, it will be ready for another renovation.

A 6 classroom block was built for 80,000 cedis by Npp.
NDC comes in and builds the same for 400,000 cedis.

It is a death trap. A major disaster waiting to happen.
It has undergone about three major renovations in the last 20 years costing millions of Dollars.

That building has developed serious structural defects or cracks right from the foundation right up to the top floors, in multiply places.

The last renovation was about 3 or 4 years ago, and they used these same lines of ( providing office accommodation for the MPs, would also provide modern offices for research assistants for the legislators)

Malawi has jailed its first senior official for the so-called "Cashgate" affair - the worst financial scandal in the country's history. A court in Lilongwe sentenced former tourism official Treza Senzani to three years' imprisonment with hard labour. She pleaded guilty to stealing $150,000 (£93,000) of government money. At least 70 people have been arrested over "Cashgate" after an audit revealed that about $30m had been skimmed from the government payment system. Businessmen and politicians are alleged to have connived with civil servants to make payments for goods and services that were never delivered. Western donor nations and agencies, which provide 40% of Malawi's budget, pulled the plug on vital aid worth around $150m in reaction to the scandal. Allegations of the massive looting of government money became public following the shooting of the finance ministry's then budget director Paul Mphwiyo in September 2013.

One is from Ghana , another is from China and the third, is from
Lebanon . All three go with a White House official to examine the fence.

The Lebanese contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring,
then works some figures with a pencil. 'Well,' he says, 'I figure the job will run
about $900: $400 for materials, $400 for my crew and $100 profit for me.'

The Chinese contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says,
'I can do this job for $700: $300 for materials, $300 for my crew and $100
profit for me.'

The Ghanaian contractor doesn't measure or figure, but leans over to the
job 600 official and whispers, '$2,700.'

The official, incredulous, says, 'You didn't even measure like the other guys!
How did you come up with such a high figure?'

The Ghanaian contractor whispers back, '$1000 for me, $1000 for you, and we
hire the guy from China to fix the fence.'

'Done!' replies the government official.

And that, my friends, is how government contracting works!

There are too many lapses in the whole system leading to excessive costs for government works. At the end we go in for IMF bail out, and the poor people are sent futher waist tightening measures. That is not fair !
