Not surprising.They are not your children.How many more will be disillusioned in due course?The cash strap and misplaced priorities in the education system may be contributory factors too.Do not pass the buck by pointing fingers at the parents and students.No child is useless without a skill.A good education system nurtures the kid and brings out their innate ability and points them to which area of the segment of the principle of labor they belong to.The whole idea of going to school is to discover what one is good at doing.It is the responsibility of the school system to lay the requisite foundation to lead the child to this ultimate goal.
I hope you give them a final chance.They are Ghanaians.You are creating problems for the society in future:drug addicts,prostitutes,armed robbers,drunks,etc.
Can somebody be foresighted and use the money to build more prisons,hire more police officers,fund the NHIS program(all of them will need health care)in future to give them a second chance.If you run away from the fight today,you will live to fight another day.An armed robber in your bedroom because you put them on the street and was blinded by lack of empathy and selfishness to give them the education which is key to good jobs and income and for lifting themselves from poverty.
Think deeply about this.

I fully endorse the comments of both Lord Tennison and MKB. The Akans have a proverb that: SE KOKONTE NENYIM GU ASE A BI KA NKRUMAH [If Kokonte is disgraced it affects Okro as well; since both go together!] Is the school happy about this publicity that 250 children[!] could not be turned around to pass their examinations? What type of Teaching and Learning, or 'Education', if we can call it so, goes on there at Labone? I do not know the total population of the School but whatever it is, with so many failures, could it be that the School is doing something which might have to be critically investigated by both the GES and the Ministry? As it has been poignantly explained here by Lord Tennison, it is the future of 250[!] Ghanaians we are talking about O O O.

Nonsense to support this and to say that put them in sub-standard schools. What is a sub-standard school. Something is really wrong with the educational system. In other places, such a measure would have attracted an investigation into the school and its teaching practices. If anything at all, the head of the school would have been sacked for presiding over such poor results. Stupid for GES to support this instead of examining why this happened in the school and implementing certain measures to prevent this in the future. The children should be brought back to the school and be given the opportunity with extra help to improve on their marks. This is why our education system is in such a mess.

The bigger question is why do we have to result to dismissal of students for non performance? The higher ups at GES and the School in question should be ashamed of their actions towards these students. If there is anyone to be dismissed for non performance it should head master/mistress and top officials of GES. Why? Because they are the once who have fail by not ensure (with every resources available) the success of these student. Our institutional leaders in Ghana are quick to blame someone else for their incompetence, a prime example in this case. There is a need for forwarding thinking by asking questions like, why the non performance? Are there mitigation circumstances for this non performance? What can to be done to help these kids? Identify the course and find a solution to help them and not be too quick to dismiss them when you done nothing to help.
To the Parents – Hold the schools accountable! Participate in Childs day to day and ensure you and your child are getting values for the fees you pay.

The onus lies on parents to also make sure their SHS children stay home and study, so if per the prospectus agreement they haven't shown to be doing that, then I think the Labone School is better of dismissing all the 250 stu ...

After all, the reputation of the school is based on the quality and of grades her students gain in their final examinations. So please headmaster/headmistress, sack those who ought to be sacked so that your school can be proud and strong as a quality institution.

The only reason why all the developed nations seek to educate all its citizens, including the lazy and disabled is the fact that whatever anybody is doing he/she can do it better if he/she is educated. Nobody/citizen should be condemned to the life of illiteracy without big risk for the whole society. Cholera, and many more diseases are functions of ignorance,illiteracy and stupidity which can only be cured by education. Now over 30% of children receive no formal education in Ghana while millions of money are wasted or stolen daily by the government and top officials. There must be a reason why our constitution mentions compulsory and free education to the high school level and if even our educators cannot understand the importance of this then we have lost it as a nation. It is more of the responsibility of the educators to make students want to learn. The kids have no choice much less be forced to go home because of poor performance. Why do we pay these counterfeit educators when they do not even know their responsibility? Find out how it works in the successful nations where everybody gets education, poor performers and all and stop this madness.

How could a parent whom do not take part in the lessons taught in the Classroom be made to Sign such unreasonable document.Does it make Sense ? Even if Sch is free such failed Students would be denied free education( parent pay fees).
The School is not free. Parents pay exorbitant Sch Fees.So,the Sch authority could only repeat the Student in Class,as long as the Parent continues to pay their fees.
With soo many Students failing in Class, I wonder if some of theTeachers teach well to the understanding of the whole Class,and are not of low quality themselves.I think it's not in the right direction to sacked these Students as against the assessment of Teachers/ Teaching performance. Anyway.

Take it easy folks; the Director General is my good friend, but he may be one of the several Ghanaians who delude themselves into thinking "passing the WASSCE very well to obtain admission in the university is the major or only aim for providing secondary school education". The head was implementing a GES policy, so he as the DG has to support her. Am sure there is now a growing awareness for the need to take another look at such obnoxious and out-dated policies.

At a period when the Honourable Minister of Education and her able team are working hard to remove inefficiencies in the educational system, such as the one demonstrated by the SHS head in question; and at a time when the JM Government and all political parties’ manifestos are pushing agendas that will make senior high education progressively universal for all; HOW CAN A SHS HEAD DO SUCH A THING?
‘Who really is the Head of the school?’ The head is unfortunately one of the many Ghanaian’s who have little understanding of the aim of senior high (or secondary) education. Heads of SHS should note that preparing senior high school students to qualify for tertiary education is just one of many aims of secondary school or senior high education. For me, the most important aim of secondary education is to develop the nation’s youth into well-rounded and engaged citizens to help build more cohesive and participatory societies in the nation. This is the main reason why all political parties’ manifestos are pushing agendas that will make senior high education progressively universal for ALL students coming out of the nation’s junior high schools.
All heads have to share this vision with their staff, students and parents. They should all understand that the competencies SHS students require to be successful socially and in future go beyond knowledge (i.e. understanding and remembering stuff assessed by WAEC) to include processes of learning or the 21st century attributes that make the learners well-rounded and engaged citizens (see more at the following link: https://www.academia.edu/8437763/What_should_be_the_role_of_SHS_students_and_teachers_in_meeting_the_challenges_of_quality_education).
