The so-called professor that tried to embellish Nkrumah's economic record needs to go back to school again. These types of socialists' arguments could deceive Ghanaians in the 50s and 60s but they cannot do that now. Nkrumah was the first leader to introduce unsustainable debt into this nation by borrowing massively and unnecessarily to finance his whims and caprices. It was a misfortune that we had such a person as president immediately after the independence. He didn't lay a realistic economic foundation for sustainable development in this country considering the amount of money that was at his disposal in those days.

Ghana had about 1bln dollars in reserve when Nkrumah took over the reins of government in this country. Can you imagine the value of one billion dollars in the early fifties? Again, after 2years of Nkrumah's rue, cocoa prices at the world market rocketed and increased fourfold. But contrary to any sound economic planning, he did not reserve any fraction of the windfall for a rainy day, as the Whiteman had done with only one fourth of the revenue he got from cocoa. So, what did he do with all that money from the astronomical cocoa prices and the big reserve he inherited that took years to build for our future financial stability and sustainable development?

Kwame Nkrumah went on a spending spree both in Ghana and around the world, throwing his weight about and talking big. So when the cocoa prices fell close to the end of his rule, he was quick to point accusing fingers at the West, blaming them for manipulating cocoa prices to sabotage the economy of Ghana and overthrow his government. Finally, after misusing all the money mainly on useless prestigious projects, communist agricultural projects, and whimsical mad-rush industrialization projects, he also burdened the young nation with another billion dollars' debt before he was forced out of this country.

The truth is that, Kwame Nkrumah met a rich country with stable economy and left it nearly bankrupt as a result of gross mismanagement and NDC is following suit.

Oh, Yes, Nkrumah might have gone on a "spending spree" but what was his main focus? Ghana and Africa! You mention '...useless prestigious projects, and mad-rush whimsical mad-rush industrialization projects..." I am old enough to remember very well that he was criticized for the Tema Motorway, the Harbour etc. etc. Yes, I know where you are coming from so you would argue that he was just trying to project himself. But please pause for a moment and ask yourself: How much of this went to Nkrumah himself and his family? Compare that with what has been happening since 1966! Are you really proud that since 'the socialist agenda' was destroyed, we have moved a step forward? Oh, if it were not Nkrumah's policies on Education, where would you have been yourself? Please, yes, Nkrumah, as a normal human being, had his failures, but in academia one tries to be as objective as possible! Just think about that!

Mean while the government refuses to modernise the missions way of delivering its services by sticking to 18th century methods thereby wasting public funds.

The regional minister has no guts to even get the junction to his house fixed. Shame on you NDC. We know the prices of all the projects have been doubled like Mahama did for the planes when he was vice.

If government really wants to save money then the missions in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea should close immediately. Why have we left Ghanaian officials there when there is no work to do because there's Ebola outbreak. We should not risk exposing any Ghanaian to Ebola. The officials must be recalled back to Ghana until situations stabilize significantly. Does foreign affairs have forward thinking people leading it at all? If there is one outbreak in any of our mission in those zones, what does Mahama plan to do? Has he even thought about that?
