This is very interesting. Not long ago the so-called CEO of Mental Health Authority was on air daydreaming and talking about clearing the streets of Ghana of the mentally ill.Embarking on his novelty idea we know is a mirage judging by what we see in our mental health institutions.Mental health institutions,Accra psychiatry hospital in particular frequently run out of drugs and basic logistics.Sometimes there is even no food and drinking water for these unfortunate persons.Workers are at high risk of rampant frequent attacks by the mentally ill because of frequent relapse on account of lack of drugs, poor accommodation and security provisions for both patients and workers at Accra Psychiatry hospital. What is baffling is the huge donor funds from bilateral and multilateral organization including government funding having no impact in improving Mental health institutions.Besides huge corporate sponsorship in cash and kind from local NGOs and companies frequently go to these mental institutions.Where does all these monies go prompting the chief psychiatrist to frequently and loudly cry for help? Are these monies put in good use to improve mental institutions or diverted into private accounts? We don't learn in this country. You cannot have one man effectively an autocrat managing affairs for decades the way he likes and expect results.People with conscience and empathy including colleague psychiatrists have had serious confrontations with this villain in his quest to ensure the wrong things to enrich himself using the mentally ill.If a chief psychiatrist can conspire to forge a mental illness on colleague doctors to force their sacking to cover up heinous illegalities killing patients in Effia Nkwanta hospital, then your guess regarding his moral conduct and integrity is as right as mine.

My brother you are dead right. Akwasi is m
Not sure of his competences in mental health, let alone the management of the institution and an acting CEO for the newly formed MH board. He has never told the papers and the public of any improvement he is brought to Psychiatry. He is self entered . People are least interested in mental health issues so gets away with murder. In May 2014, as you rightly said promised to clear the street of Accra of the Mentally ill, adding more stigma to this poor group, nothing happened and no one has held him to account for that. Now l believe the monies given by DFID has been exhausted in per dem and pay, l bet no one cedi would have gone into patient care. Our brothers and sisters need to open their eyes , and hold him accountable .good luck to mother Ghana.
