Okomfo Anokye was the 4th chief of Agona -Asante so he was an Ashanti. The Asantes do not appoint a stranger as a chief so otumfuo should go back to the drawing table and learn the history.

What we should be bear in mind is that the people were formally independent units under slavery in Denkyira, during the reign of Ntim Gyakari. They therefore united as one people as they spoke the same dialect of the Akan language (Twi), and fought gallantly to defeat the Denkyiras. After defeating the Denkyiras, they resolved to be one people in order not fall prey to any group again. They then started waging wars for the acquisition of territories, culminating in the Ashanti Empire.
