What may appear to be an insignificant detail probably tells us all and sums up how we are not serious in this country, Ghana.

Does the Electoral Commission and the NPP want to tell us that in an important event which will probably be broadcast in still-photos or video, world-wide, they could not take the necessary measures to ensure that we dont look cheap and as disorganized as usual?

Hasnt the Ghana Electoral Commission got standards of basic decency and organization for voting environments? Couldnt the Electoral Commission at the very minimum, partition or shield the area where the ballot box is standing, to conceal the votes of the electorate? After over 60 years of going through the charade of elections, isnt it possible to at least show that we know how to vote properly and decently? Isnt there anything at all in this world that we can lay claim to doing properly?

What is this ballot box inconveniently placed on a plastic chair with the usual cluttered slum-like background? And this is at the NPP headquarters? Damn!!!

The whole NPP head office, a party that makes all sorts of funny noises about employing the most far-reaching internal democratic electoral system in Africa, could not afford a common table or a platform on which to place the ballot-box? Are they not ashamed that the international media that will be covering this election will catch some of these unpalatable scenes and broadcast them to the world? How much more embarrassment do we have to bear with, as a country?

This not only tells me that the Chairman, the General Secretary and the organizer of that party as well as the responsible Electoral Commission official are all unenlightened and uncultured but also that, that party has no regard for common decency and civilized standards.

If this is the picture at the national head office of the NPP, I just cant imagine the kind of disorder, chaos and generally messy and untidy impressions that other election locations will portray about Ghana.

Judging from the anarchic confusion that is going on in Ghana today under the NDC govt, the NPP will very likely assume the governance of the country in 2016, but I shudder to think that this is the kind of leadership standard that will be imposed upon us.
