In conclusion, the President’s power to appoint the Chairman and Members of the EC is merely a ministerial one. The substantive power of appointment is assigned to the Council of State. The President shall act on the advice of the Council of State means the President is barred from the nomination, vetting and selection process. Those who framed the Constitution were keenly aware of the impropriety inherent in allowing the President, a political player, to play a critical role in selecting the political referee. Nevertheless, out of deference for the office of the President, the framers allowed him, as the Chief Executive Officer, the honour of “appointing” the candidate selected by the Council of State. In this case, all the President is required to do is to issue the appointment letter under the Presidential seal but no more.

As much as I hate to admit Rawlings was right with his statement. If they have had listen to those who were concern with the president health, he might be alive today.

Cos of your stupid comment, u could not use your identity. Ghana does NOT need idiots like you at a time when we are in the crossroads with NDC Govt., that is confusing us all. Back to the topic, we have Registration of Births and so why do we have to ask the individual families to inform the EC when infact the Hospitals who conduct Orthopsies can send all Deaths it registers to the Data-link. If we do NOT have a NATIONAL DATA that links all the 275 Constituencies, them it is about time they operate one immediately.This is serious. We hear a lot of GHOST EMPLOYEES exist in Government Pay- Rolls. How can this continue in this time of Technological Age. Why do people at the HELM continue to make UNNECESSARY noise without employing those with knowledge to effect the needed changes. This is CORRUPTION cos they lose the moneys that they steal from Government or State coffers if they remove those GHOST NAMES from their Registers. Let us begin to remove and jail all those CORRUPT LEADERS.

EC your brains and stop making uneducated requests. sometimes I wonder how some of you guys got to the position you're in. strategize with the people you work with rather than this one man show we use in running everything in Ghana, it makes you sound stupid in public.

It would appear that those in control of the NDC, for the time being, were bent on excluding other bona fide members of the Party who may wish to lay democratic claims to who becomes the next flag bearer of the Party by excluding them even before the mortal remains of the demised President were interred. It is also symptomatic of how political party elites in Ghana and Africa worm their way into the confidences of persons perceived as likely to ascend to power positions for purposes of eventual personal economic gain at the expense of the generality of the mass of Party members and the Nation which every President swears to serve under the Constitution

Data can then be easily obtained from that database o continuous basis. A bereaved and mourning family should not go to the EC to inform them that their relative is dead. This is crass stupidity.

The aforementioned clearly spells it out that there has never been a clean and fair elections in Ghana since 1992 up-to-date as lectured before the world by the Electoral Commission in favour of one party or the other.

In fact, if the EC's registration of potential voters has been done in such a haphazard mode all these faithful years through the very testimony they are showcasing here, then how does one conduct a successful free and fair elections in a country with such registry full of potential ghost names and minors?

How did they manage to pull that off beats me to a knockout of a headache now! Simple, the register must be thoroughly clean and clean it must now.

Dr, just compare the voters register to national identification register and arrest any under age voter and pass a law to jail them for two years and trust me no under age voter will try to vote. They are nation breakers

Why can't the Electoral Commission (EC) contacted the Ministries Of Birth and Death registries to inform themselves adequately as to whether expunge a name/names from their own registry or keep such names before the 2016 general elections? In fact, it's their sole mandatory duty to be doing such on their pay-grade to bring the needed credibility they're so forcefully preaching in here before all to the voters register. Consequently, this could have been far easier if the ongoing street and house naming exercise across the length and breadth of the country would have been done with by now.

Don't rely on human factor. Use technology to do that. Link your network to Births and Deaths Registry.
Final death registry should be issued by Internal Affairs and record deaths.

This one week exercise by the EC, is one of the most important processes on the electoral calendar, and it is very, very, very important that, the various stakeholders, the political parties, most especially, the NPP, stays very, very vigilant and ensure the register is thoroughly cleaned as a critical first step towards free, transparent and credible elections in the country. The exercise is from October 24th to October 30th at all polling stations in the country.
All the various political parties should get on this exercise and be keenly invested in this exercise so Ghana limits the chances of a repeat of the election petition of 2016. Vigilance is the key here and a clean voters register is a must. Be vigilant!!!
