No experience.no personal gravitas only in the eyes of the befuddled and mislead. President Mahama cannot be re-elected and he has one eye on what history will say about him. I have the distinct impression that much like an ostrich he has buried his head in the sand hoping that many of the problems facing his presidency will go away. This is one of the weaknesses of the presidential system that the first term sometimes produces timidity of action which is dangerous for the whole Ghana. Ghana really should have got its act together in 2012 and voted this clown out.

Oil and the record harvest of cocoa was a result of the policies of previous governments and cannot be credited to the mills government. Empty barrels make so much noise they do not hear when sense is being spoken.

Ghanaians would first need to look at this statement in 2 parts and pose some questions, in order to appreciate the very nature and import of this statement, and going forward, what needs to be done.
The first part of the statement is "we can't fix the economy in 2years".
First, what was the nature of the economy when the Mahama NDC gov't took over the governance of the country? Was the economy broken? Fixing it, presupposes that the economy is broken? When did it get broken and how was it caused? Who caused it to be broken for which reason we had to go to the IMF for a bailout? Was the breaking of the economy a recent event?
These are very legitimate questions that requires answers because, currently, S&P, has downgraded Ghana's rating on the back of the broken economy arising from the mismanagement of John Mahama's NDC gov't.
In diagnosing the broken economy, did the sum of a few dubious judgment debts being greater than the budget for the Ministry of Agriculture, one of the contributory factors to the broken economy, since such dubious judgment debts took investible funds away from the ministry, to cite but just one example?
This brings us to the second part of the statement which reads, if I would be allowed to paraphrase it; John Mahama's eyes are beyond 2016. And that is where the issue is.
Why do we say this? We say this because, in the presence of an oil economy, record gold and cocoa prices, revenue from increased taxes and imposition of new taxes, loans contracted from both local and foreign sources, grants and aid from development partners etc, etc, the John Mahama NDC gov't, have broken down the economy.
The EC and the Supreme Court made it clear to Ghanaians all over the world to believe that, the mandate of Ghanaians was entrusted to John Mahama and his NDC team to manage and grow the economy for the benefit of Ghanaians.
What has happened is, instead of managing and growing the economy, they have broken it and sunk it precariously to the very depths of stagnation with a point of no return, which means 1. they have failed to live up to their mandate of managing and growing the economy. 2. Breaking the economy down means John Mahama and his team lack the competence to manage and grow the economy. This lack of competence is what triggered the IMF bailout where John Mahama and his NDC team, said they were going to the IMF for confidence and credibility where they would seek for a) technical assistance and b. funding for their home grown policies.
The result of this expedition is a downgrade, which brings to the fore t point #3. which is, the international community has reaffirmed what Ghanaians have been saying that, John Mahama and his NDC gov't cannot deliver, now! in 2years! or beyond 2016! and this is very significant.
Going forward, it is very, very critical that the John Mahama NDC administration is voted out for having failed to live up to it's mandate, gross incompetence, actively taking steps that have led to the breaking down of the economy for a much more capable, committed and visionary team to take over the reins of governance. 2016 is the year to right the wrongs of failed leadership, incompetence, mismanagement, and all the factors that have necessitated the conditions for the bailout, which has come back with a downgrade.

The IMF has NOTHING to offer us....and has created an immoral system of modern day colonialism that SAPs the poor, over and over again!

The IMF along with the WTO and the World Bank has put the global economy on a path of greater inequality and environmental destruction.

The IMF's and World Bank's structural adjustment policies (SAPs) ensure debt repayment by requiring countries to cut spending on education and health; eliminate basic food and transportation subsidies; devalue national currencies to make exports cheaper; privatize national assets; and freeze wages.

Such belt-tightening measures increase poverty, reduce countries' ability to develop strong domestic economies and allow multinational corporations to exploit workers and the environment A recent IMF loan package for Argentina, for example, is tied to cuts in doctors' and teachers' salaries and decreases in social security payments.....

The IMF has made elites from the Global South more accountable to First World elites than their own people, thus undermining the democratic process.

We have been there with the IMF and NOTHING good ever seems to come out of these reforms.

All we need to do is go back to the drawing board and follow sensibly, NKRUMAH's SEVEN YEAR DEVELOPMENT PLAN.......and apply our brains for once to generate funds from within to make it happen!

Yes, you can fix the economy in two years if your government will stop putting all those Dr. this and Dr. who have never run even a mom and pop business before in higher positions of all State Enterprises because they are party men and women.

The country needs an industrial transformation in order to grow. Yet all we see in most appointments are economists etc. who are naturally risk averse by the nature of their training.

Start to use more MBAs (accountants, marketing, finance and operations management experts)who have been trained to create and manage businesses so you can grow more industries and manufacturing businesses which produce products that are geared towards exports.

If you do not change the strategy, then the economy the way it is now will even get worse in the next 2 years.

The economy is a developing one and it's structures weak, import dependent: and until this is fixed no matter the government in power these shocks will intermittently show up. If JM says we are looking at not only short term economic stabilization but beyond election cycles, is that not a good thing? Did he say he will president, at all cost, in 2017? Those who hate the president for whatever reason are at liberty to do so but we should and understand properly his pronouncements, putting away political lenses, before exacting judgements.
