  This is a national problem involving all free roaming cattle throughout the country. In the Afienya backyard of Tema, I have had my well tendered mango plants (1000) and plantains (over 1000) and other plants (maize, sugarcane, sweet potatoes, etc.) at my farm all plundered by herds of cattle. My numerous reports to the Police yielded no results; I always threatened the cattle boys to stay away, but to no avail. At my residence in Community 22, Tema, hundreds of cattle are brought there daily from the Tulaku cattle market, through the thick Tema-Akosombo traffic (in the full view of Police at the Tulaku checkpoint), to roam around our residences, also destroying our plants and grass, and infecting people and animals with the ticks disease. Numerous residents' meetings with the cattle owners have yielded no results, as the owners claim that the cattle are at Tulaku for short periods before being sold.
  The last National Security Advisor admitted on national TV that the menace of the Fulani herdsmen is a number one national security problem! It is about time we defined clear guidelines on rearing cattle in Ghana - they certainly must be penned or secluded. In the towns and cities, extra jobs can be created by hiring the jobless to cut grasses for the cattle, goats, etc.
  Please, Parliament, act now, or the rumour that some of you are involved in the cattle trade would continue to persist!

  The question is how are these Fulani herdsmen, if they are not from Ghana, getting into the country in the first place with large herds of cattle..? Aren't our borders well protected enough..? How do they get in and get to grab lands just like that and then made to go scot free? And we are supposed to be in the twenty-first century? where are our leaders, police, law enforcement agencies? Lord have mercy!

  The Ghana Forestry Commission has to be summonsed to appear before the Parliament to explain how this situation came to exist for so long. The report claims this particular encroachment into the Reserve began some 3 years ago.
  
  I would not like to believe that the Parliament relegates matters related to Forestry and Agriculture to the base of its priority list. But the growing sentiment among discerning and concerned Ghanaians is that the august Assembly pays limited to no attention to what has been going on in our Forests.
  
  The reasons why that could be true are obvious but easy to reject by the MPs. So, let's suffice it to say that so long as those who are hit the hardest and most directly, our rural folks living in, around and on the Forests, remain subdued and silently enduring their plight, without complaining, or taking to the streets in demonstration, the Parliament can conveniently ignore the problem of our fast dwindling Forests.
  
  This is yet another evidence of how our leaders are bankrupting our posterity. And we must all help increase Public awareness of that and demand immediate action to curb the trend.
