The people must seek for a democratic rule and not an army rule.
We have many examples in Africa where the army general takes over and stays on for twenty or more years. You Ghana and the so callrd Rawlings as your example.

It is not the staying in power for long periods by incompetent leaders that is the problem. It is not the application of incompatible western democratic processes, or for that matter, any other alien political system, that is the problem.

It is our basic inability, as a people, to distinguish what is right from wrong and to forcibly insist on what is right for our peculiar purposes, which is what makes it virtually impossible for us to move on ahead.

How can any person or group of persons in desperately backward countries in Africa, if they were in their right minds, possibly root for, or vote for characters like Mahama, Mills, Kufuor and even worse of all, Rawlings, and continue to prop them up with their support in spite of the fact that they were so so so palpably useless whilst in govt, in this day and age?

As to how they came into power is largely irrelevant as far as I am concerned. Those so-called democratic leaders who were voted into power, apart from betraying the trust of the people who voted for them by being the worse performers in govt, have been the worse performing leaders amongst the lot. They were not able to accomplish anything at all during their terms in office except to loot the national coffers for themselves, their families and their cronies. In the end it turns out that they were the only ones who seem to have benefited from the so-called democracy that we think we are pursuing. The conditions of those of us who have continued to vote for them have on the other hand, consistently depreciated. We cannot be fools forever.

Apart from Kwame Nkrumah who of course, was in a class of his own, General Kutu Acheampong comes out as the next most commendable head of govt in this country. His achievements were relatively phenomenal as against the rest.

It must be pointed out that even if the soldiers who take over govt in Africa are unable to achieve any visible economic achievements, at the very least, they have instilled some amount of much-needed discipline in the wider society.

As the matter stands, we should not allow ourselves to be distracted by the red herrings of democratic niceties. Given the electoral opportunity anyway, the average Ghanaian would more likely vote on ethnic, religious and social considerations, rather than on issues which are more likely to improve his/her own socioeconomic circumstances. This makes me wonder why we seem to be so preoccupied by our wishy-washy claims to democratic pretensions.

Drmocracy even though not perfect is better than dictatorship. Why should we allow anybody to lord it over us for 20 or more years whether the person is good or not. At least with democracy every 4 or 5 years the people's power is returned to them to accept or reject the President. That is basic human achievement democracy gives to us. By the way thanks for coming out with your thoughts which is another thing democracy offers all of us.

We have been voting and choosing leaders since 1966 and true freedom from the oppression of subservience, poverty and ignorance has eluded us and seems to be fading further and further away in the dim distance of despair and misery.

TRUE DEMOCRACY is primarily about the right to enjoy ones fair share of the benefits and wealth of ones country. Any other subscription to the word democracy, is secondary and irrelevant at this point in time.

Those who continue to mislead and fool you about the rights of choice giving you freedom, did not, until they were fully developed and strong in their position of absolute control, allow minority Blacks, property-less citizens and women, amongst others, the right to democratic choice on the grounds that the this group of people could not be relied upon to make right choices.

In the same vein, they did not also allow the overwhelming populations of billions of native citizens in colonized countries 'overseas' throughout the world, the right to vote for the several hundreds of years that they tyrannized them until they had finished looting their/our resources. What about that for your Sunday thoughts, Mama Rosina?

Your last sentence tells me that you continue to hang on to the very narrow-minded, out-dated and imperialist promoted version of the meaning of the word, democracy.

I suggest that you try to make or do a broad research on the wider meaning of the word 'democracy' to bring yourself up to date. This will enable you to more appreciate where you are and what to do next in the struggle to extricate the Black race from the doldrums of imperialist subservience - that is if that interests you above the simple-minded joy and pleasure of voting once every four years for uncouth politicians to get richer and richer on the strength of your vote.

For your information, our govt is more likely to rally around the corrupt and redundant institution of ECOWAS to support or sympathize with the overthrown President of Burkina Faso than getting on the side of those who you refer to as the democratic forces of Burkina Faso.

This was an insurrection. It has no identifiable leadership on who one can count to steer Burkina Faso to safer grounds.

In fact what will more likely happen in this particular case is that, global imperialism, led by France, will discreetly force a 'safe person' of their choice - in the mold of the former President who was their puppet, Blaise Compoare, on the people of Burkina Faso and we will have to go through the same nonsense again.

Barring the active intervention of the ghost and spirit of Thomas Sankara, this uprising will be just another SNAFU (situation normal, all fucked up) situation. Lets wait and see.

The masses of Burkina fasso in the meantime should accept a military rule on a vote of confidence under one of these military officers for a short period of time to tighten their borders against insurgents who might take advantage of the impass to sneak through the soft spots of the status quo to come and couse counter coup to destabilise the already impoverised country for their political interest. They should therefore see to resolve their differences to reach consensus to who must be the right officer as the [Head of the pürovisional military Government]and must see to do everything in the country for the interest of the citenry not for their ego,othrewise history will judge them accordingly.

He is also clueless and seems to condone mediocrity. Worst of it all is he has come to mismanage an economy that Was recording a single digit inflation rate under his former boss. There is general despondency and mistrust among workers. Institutions like Getfund, Nhis. District assembly common fund etc are all suffering. According to Prince Johnson who was part of the contingent, Campaore threatened to arrest and ship them to Doe if they refused to take Sankara out. (Check out the Liberian Truth and reconciliation records)Taylor and Campaore were linked by certain nefarious activities as you probably know. He probably sold his fellow Liberians down the river in this deal. You can likely smell the fart of the of foreign intelligence services in the background pulling the strings.

Most of them have not known even Civil war before, yet are soo greedy and power thirsty,but mess up big-time when they got the chance to rule.Using the gun to robbed,extort and intimidate their own people instead to protect them, is what they know how to do best.Africa is tired of the Military because they never do what is legally expected of them to protect the people except in a singular case in Mali recently; but rather intentionally maimed, disfigured to invalidate their own people.The pitifully,dehumanizing seen and stories of Sierra Leone, Liberia,La Cote D'Ivoire etc etc is fresh in mind,though.
Campoare made a sad mistake when he finally decided to step down if he wished his motherland well by not handing over power to the Speaker of Parliament or the Chief Justice and seeing the swearing in Ceremony with a 21 gun Salute to bid him farewell and goodbye to his Countrymen. I think he should have done that to disfuse and possible military tension if he wished his Country well as I have earlier said.
However,why should that Rival Officer also make counter announcement if he is Democratic, not full of greed,and a man of peace. Anyway
