Whatever it is, I wish the Government had actually confirmed that the money was used to purchase Merchant Bank. That money ought to be invested anyways, and if buying Merchant Bank was the most prudent way to invest the money ...

That money ought to be invested anyways, and if buying Merchant Bank was the most prudent way to invest the money for maximum yields, then so be it. I would have problems if the money was unaccounted for, which is a more common feature of African government. But whoever said it was used to buy Merchant Bank simply said the government invested the money, which it ought to do as a prudent measure of governance...AND SO WHAT?

The Mahama NDC gov't should return the looted tier-two pension funds and transfer it as prescribed by the law, so Ghana can move forward.
This strike action is just beginning and until the tier-two pension funds are transferred to the scheme and fund managers of workers choice as dictated by the law, the NDC gov't should forget about the strike action being called off.
As the Mahama led NDC gov't is asking for Labour to respect the law, the gov't has a MUCH GREATER OBLIGATION to adhere to the strict tenets of the law, which is to return wherever the looted tier-two pension funds has been lodged, and transfer it to the workers scheme pronto, so Ghana can move forward, and also pay the statutorily obligated funds such as DACF, GETFUND, NHIS, and other similar such funds prescribed by law.

I believe that in this period of accusations and counter-accusations, the best way out of the impasse is for the government to meet with labour and agree on:
(a) a process of reconciling the accounts of the second tier Pension collections and investments
(b) Verifying the lodgements made and the balances as they stand; and
(c) Agreeing on the contractual arrangements for the management of the funds.

The current public explanations would lack credibility.
