The government workers are on strike because they can -- wouldn't you go on strike also if there are no consequences? This is what you get in a lawless society -- Mahama is interested in solving the Burkina Faso issues instead of what is happening in his own country. There is so much corruption that most folks no longer trust the government. Our president has lost his way, and does not have the guts to lead the country, decisions have become political instead of what is good for the country. Why are the NDC affiliated workers not on the job? I don't think the union can "arrest" them if they choose to go to work or are the offices closed?
This is a trust issue rather than the work of the opposition (don't think opposition has that kind of power and influence), the same reason why Mahama sent a plane full of $$$$ to Brazil to pay our footballers before playing last game.

Ndc and its affiliate, The United Cadres Front (UCF) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)should know because that is what they did when they were in opposition.

During President Kufuor Npp administration, he refused to pay the Ndc Alorvi led Teachers Union and other unions that embarked on strikes and demonstrations. Ndc and its Trokosi Alorvi went to court and argued that labour laws in Ghana is on their corner and they should be paid.

Maybe Ndc thought it will not come to power again. Now they are reaping the fruits of their labour. They are the ones who trained these workers and use labour unions to do their political bidding now labour has turned their guns on them and they have to deal with it.

We have an Akan proverb that says when you are eating the hand of a monkey, you should take a look at your own hand. It is also not nice to pluck the feathers of a bird and show it to an old man to tell you what kind of a bird it is.

A word to the wise they say is enough.

Mr. Kwesi Pratt, could you remember that Rawlings used the TUC and its workers as a springboard for overthrowing Liman's government fraudulently? Could you also remember that he used to take 'Kenkey' to Legon to demonstrate how the size had shrunk under Liman, and we ended up with the "Rawlings' Chain" in his regime but nobody could talk? And could you also remember that Nkrumah used to incite workers to strike against the Whiteman and later on outlawed strikes and said they were unpatriotic in his regime when the economic situation was genuinely difficult for workers?

I don't believe NPP is behind the present wave of strikes. To my understanding, NPP is only highlighting the failings and excesses of the government, hopping that it would translate into votes for the party in the next elections. And that is, in fact, a genuine legitimate politics. Everybody in Ghana knows that the cost of living under the NDC government is unbearable, and NPP could be seizing the opportunity to convince Ghanaians not to vote for NDC in the next elections. Frankly, I don't see anything wrong with highlighting the failings of an incapable government in order to wrestle power from it democratically. NDC is the cause of the strikes because of the unprecedented pervasive corruption,wrecless over spending, over borrowing and overall economic mismanagement that brought untold hardship on Ghanaians. Finally, the workers are not fools; they are intelligent and can think for themselves.

The laws state explicitly that, the Mahama NDC gov't should transfer the funds to the scheme and fund managers of workers choice.
Now, it's very insulting that the NDC gov't and it's acolytes would seek to suggest that, Ghanaian workers some of whom, have put in 30 to 40years of hard labour, and have witnessed other colleagues of theirs, whose retirement has been anything but comfortable, because their pension contributions have been mismanaged, would not have the presence of mind, to ensure that, the tier-two pension fund established to address this mishap, would be inclined to act on ensuring that such a instrument is adhered to the letter, on the instigation and coercion of opposition elements.
That is a very, very, very huge insult.
The Mahama NDC gov't says the tier-two pension funds is sitting in the TPFA account at BoG. They should transfer the funds as dictated by the law to the fund and scheme managers of Labour's choice, so that the agitation at the labour front would subside, and also meet the requirements of the law, so Ghana can move forward, the insults notwithstanding.

This is a very low statement to have come from a political party, swallow analysis, poor judgement immature reasoning, and fallacy of hasty conclusion.
Labour movement goes beyond a political party, and if you attend labour meetings you would appreciate the depth of discussions the go on, which is far better than what we are experiencing in Ghana parliament where opposition does not see any better thing from government, and government also does not see any good from the opposition.
Lobour unions, we also have brains which are superior than anything you can think of and we can never be led by a mere political party before we will act.
If you are sure that labour belong to NPP then you are mistaken, and again it means the government has no support base in the country.
Who inaugurated the unions trustee ?, is it not government agency ? NPRA or the unions ?
It was the government who gave the certificates to all these trustees, now send the money to them, you said no, and labour is talking then you are saying NPP.
Advise the government to do the right thing and we shall support it.
LABOUR IS TOO MATURE TO BE MANIPULATED BY NPP.
