  I hope that will enhance the image of technical education in Ghana. Every country that is serious about development requires a sound and solid technical manpower and systems improvement. These are the areas that create real jobs and opportunities. Unfortunately, in Ghana we only associate technical education with carpenter, masons and joiners. We need people to develop in engineering, IT, chemistry and other technical areas. Let us hope the politicians and the technocrats will for once work together to make this succeed.

  This is very unfortunate and undermines the core objective for the establishment of polytechnics in Ghana.
  The polytechnics established in all regions was aimed to provide the needed technician manpower for industrial development in Ghana. Upgrading to the status if a university will create a budge gap in the technician class which as it is today could only be filled by apprentice who were dropouts.
  This action will further collapse industries that require the services of technicians.
  What Ghana needs now in its development path is more technicians than engineers. Let's take a clue from the German educational system.
  God save Ghana. Just look at this. We spend huge sum of cash to buy a car or an equipment only to leave it in the hands of a dropout apprentice who does not understand the technical basis to fix it. The result is disaster ans damage of the equipment.

  to what extent research has been made thoroughly, to examine this transition from poly tec to tec university? has this actually taken in to study the long and short term consequences to the individuals and the nation as a whole? had there been much thoroughly made research, taken in to consideration all factors specifically environment, finance, culture, technology? or the decision was arrived at, by the influence of some top officials only to please the government that they are working? we would also like to know whether other developed nations' trend in education is examined relatively to the trend in Ghana education to enhance informed judgement? pls, 57yrs of independence is a long way, let there be commitment and loyalty in executing duties to our dear nation.   Enough of the non-essential courses and it's high time Technical & Vocational education is given priority status in our educational setup.In this setting, different categories of people will be trained to man the lower, middle and the managerial level of our industrial firms.There won't be any duplication of programmes from the traditional universities because here, hands-on or competency-based training will be given prominence.KNUST and the like can continue with their theory.

Convert all polys to varsities and then where do train your technicians? We have already abolished the first 3 years of high school education pushing the students to so called junior high which are housed in old middle school premises that never had libraries nor science labs and push their grads to do a 3 year senior high program only to find out that they are ill prepared for University work.

  Technical universities train technicians cum engineers hence it is a flawed argument to say that there will be deficiency in the number of technicians available. Currently the polytechnics do train artisans and won't be different if it is elevated to a university status.Technical universities are for skills and competency-based training and not theory.Developed countries have done it and why can't Ghana?
