Dear 12 labour unions, could you remember that Nkrumah used to incite workers to strike against the Whiteman, and later on outlawed strikes in his regime and said they were unpatriotic when living conditions were genuinely unbearable for workers? Could you remember that Rawlings used to incite TUC workers to strike against Liman in order to over throw his government fraudulently? And could you remember that he used to take 'Kenkey' to Legon to demonstrate how the size had shrunk under Liman, and we ended up with the "Rawlings' Chain" but nobody could talk? Could you further remember that Acheampong and Rawlings used IMF conditionalitis under Busia and Liman as a pretext for overthrowing their governments unjustifiably, and the P/NDC reintroduced IMF and World Bank with stringent conditions after the coup without apologizing to Liman?

I don't know what the leftist P/NDC is talking about, and I don't believe that NPP is behind the present wave of strikes. As far as I know, NPP is only highlighting the failings and excesses of the government, hopping that they would translate into votes for the party in the next elections. And that is, in fact, a genuine legitimate politics because they are true and not false. Everybody in Ghana knows that cost of living under this NDC government is unbearable, and NPP could be seizing the opportunity to tell Ghanaians not to vote for NDC in the next elections. Frankly, I don't see anything wrong with highlighting the failings and excesses of an incapable government to wrestle power from it democratically. NDC is the cause of the strikes because of high levels of corruption, over spending, reckless borrowing and overall economic mismanagement that brought untold hardship on Ghanaians.

Moreover, the monies collected from workers have virtually disappeared, and that Thomson guy at SSNIT is not to be trusted. He is a vampire, and his brother is the other Thomson that was a CEO at STC, and has been removed this year by its workers for pension funds and other wrongdoings. Until the "Big" Thomson at SSNIT is also removed, the extent of the damage done to workers' pensions in this country will never be known. The monies have been misused under Mr. Thomson and SSNIT is bankrupt.

The only lasting solution to this standoff is to send BNI to SSNIT to investigate and unearth the stinking rot kept in their big cupboards. What they will find will send every Ghanaian into the street calling for "blood to flow". Unfortunately, the government itself seems to have a hand in the malfeasance, and that is a potential impediment that workers would have to face.
