TUC should get their facts right as no investor will ever invest in the country if they are seen as counter productive. No govt will ever succeed with current structure of the civil service. Recruitment is no longer base on merit but your affiliation with some big man of political party. When you sabotage your govt, you end up paying through depreciation of the currency and inflation. Watch that.

Every economist, African leader, finance minister must read this book!
Book: "why nations fail": an abundance of natural resources is a national curse!
These nations with natural resource wealth on average have worse financial economies than nations who don't. Why you ask? Weak institutions, corruption, bad governors, managers!
Ghana Sovereign Wealth Fund by Martin Skankar.....Norwegian Ministry of Finance
What is "Dutch Disease"?
A percentage of proceeds from oil, gold, diamonds, cocoa revenues etc should be deposited yearly in a Ghana Sovereign Wealth Fund account, a national 401k. This money will never be touched by any govt, period! This money will be invested all over the world in socially constructive projects. Projects to be excluded can include chemical nuclear projects, environmentally disastrous projects, product based exclusions, tobacco, walmart(human rights abuses). The ROI from this fund will be used to supplement infrastructure projects. Is Ghana a cursed, weak institution? Yes, I agree whole heartedly!

I do not support students' violent protests but military intervention is not the answer. Wa has a Regional Police command with enough police to have stopped the students.

In just two years, John Dramani Mahama and the NDC have brought Ghana to its knees economically. Now, after stealing all of Ghana's money, these stupid and low life miscreants from the NDC are plotting more of the same misery on Ghanaians in 2016? Ghanaians would be the biggest fools on this planet if they vote for NDC in 2016. And, when will the corrupt Electoral Commissioner be changed? Dr. Afari-Djan has no credibility whatsoever!

Mr. Kwesi Pratt, could you remember that Nkrumah used to incite workers to strike against the Whiteman, but outlawed strikes in his regime when living conditions were genuinely difficult for workers, and said that strikes were unpatriotic?
Could you also remember that Rawlings used to incite TUC workers to strike against Liman's government in order to over throw it fraudulently? And could you remember that he used to take 'Kenkey' to Legon to demonstrate how the size had shrunk under Liman, and we ended up in the "Rawlings's Chain" but nobody could talk? Could you further remember that Acheampong and Rawlings used the mild IMF conditions under Busia and Liman respectively as justifications for overthrowing their governments deceitfully? Could you still remember that PNDC reintroduced IMF and the World Bank with more stringent conditions after the coup without apologizing to Liman?
I don't know what the leftists are talking about, and I don't believe that NPP is behind the present wave of strikes either. As far as I know, NPP is only highlighting the failings and excesses of the government, hopping to translate them into votes for the party in the next elections. And that is, in fact, genuine and legitimate politics because the failings are true and not false. Everybody in Ghana knows that cost of living under the NDC government is unbearable, and NPP is democratically seizing the opportunity to convince the electorate not to vote for NDC in the next elections.
Frankly, I don't see anything wrong with an opposition highlighting the failings of an incapable government to wrestle power from it democratically. NDC is the cause of the strikes because of higher levels of corruption, over spending, reckless borrowing and economic mismanagement that have brought untold hardship on Ghanaians.
Moreover, the monies collected from workers have virtually disappeared, and that Thomson guy at SSNIT is not to be trusted. He is a vampire, and his brother is the other Thomson that was a CEO at STC, and has been removed this year by its workers for pension funds and other wrongdoings. Until the "Big" Thomson at SSNIT is also removed, the extent of the damage done to workers' pensions in this country will never be known. The monies have been misused under Mr. Thomson and SSNIT is bankrupt.
The only lasting solution to this standoff is to send BNI to SSNIT to investigate and unearth the stinking rot kept in their big cupboards. What they will find will send every Ghanaian into the street calling for "blood to flow". Unfortunately, the government itself seems to have a hand in the malfeasance, and that is a potential impediment that workers would have to face.

Ghana is sinking under a heavy load of rubbish. Why? Does it make sense to use 70% of our revenue to pay for salaries/wages and can the 30% take care of the rest of the economy? Absolutely NO. We need to govern with a small but effective government than to use big and useless government. We have been using the later yet see nothing wrong with that. How many Ghanaians are on the payroll of the government and the question is why? How many Ministers/Parliamentarians etc do we have? NDC forced to create additional 45 constituencies but failed to tell Ghanaians where the money will come from to support the additional parliamentarians.
Foolish government need the IMF to teach them how to cut cost like NDC.

I agree with every word of yours but just want to add the fact that for certain key workers like doctors, policemen, teachers the number per population is not high enough. Currently one doctor sees too many people. But workers in the ministries can maybe lose up to 90% of their staff and be replaced with technology or outsourcing to the private sector. To be fair to the unions they mentioned increases in only the key sectors. Sanitation is the only sector they included in their that I disagree with because that can benefit from capital investment like motorised road sweepers. The unions principle of not doing business with the imf is something I totally agree with

TUC must explain to its members that it takes sacrifices for people to develop be it at personal level, community level or national level. Check what the Chinese have to go through to be where they are today. Check from genuinely rich people what effort and sacrifice they had to put in to climb the economic ladder. Check those in the diaspora and see why the do two or three jobs daily in order to be able to save some money. In short one salary is never good enough so workers must get out of their comfort zones and find other ways of adding to their incomes . That is how capitalism works unfortunately.

This NPP destructive organization of Ghana does not know what they are doing. Well advanced countries like Greece, Argentina etc. sought assistance from IMF to succeed. What is this man talking about? If we have them as leaders whose expertise is to organize demonstration. But do not know how to stop its members from corruption, members to work hard, stop members from thwarting investors' effort to start businesses in Ghana because they don't pay bribes. How can the country prosper? Foolish talk. Does this useless fool of a doctor think the IMF was established for Ghana to come and seek help? I wonder why Ghanaian so-called intellectuals have become useless due to politics. God save Ghana from these nation wreckers called UP/NPP.
