“In the last six years, the NDC has borrowed US$27 billion. Before that, we, the NPP, borrowed a total of US$5.5 billion in eight years. Compare that to the NDC borrowing $27 billion in six years and ask yourself what they have done with all that money,” the running mate to Nana Akufo-Addo said.

He said, though a lot more money has been spent, it is a paradox of economic management that this level of excessive spending has only led to greater hardships being visited on the people.

“NDC inherited a public debt stock of GHS9.5 billion in 2009,” the former Deputy Governor of the central bank said. “Today, Ghana’s debt has gone up to GHS65.7 billion. So when I say the stakes are high I am talking about the destiny of our country, Ghana, the future of the youth.”

“The NDC has been taxing everything, including condoms and cutlasses. In terms of resources, this NDC government has had more resources than any other government. We did not have oil. Yet, Ghanaians know what we did with the limited resources we had. We spent money responsibly to create the NHIS, introduce Capitation Grant, expand access to education, we spent wisely on infrastructure and built more roads than any other government,” he said.

A percentage of proceeds from oil, gold, diamonds, cocoa revenues etc should be deposited yearly in a Ghana Sovereign Wealth Fund account, a national 401k. This money will never be touched by any govt, period! This money will be invested all over the world in socially constructive projects. Projects to be excluded can include chemical nuclear projects, environmentally disastrous projects, product based exclusions, tobacco, walmart(human rights abuses). The ROI from this fund will be used to supplement infrastructure projects. Is Ghana a cursed, weak institution? Yes, I agree whole heartedly!

Any Tunisian or Burkinabee-syle revolution in this country will have to start from the parliament as it happened in Burkina Faso. Our parliamentarians are so hopeless that the Executive can easily manipulate them to deplete our coffers or even become dictator. If someone hadn't blown the whistle about the GNPC's $700mln dubious loan, the booty could have been shared and squandered without our notice. And our Parliament should have been at the forefront calling for the CEO to resign.

Obviously, Ghanaians are still not hearing the whole story, and we may never know exactly what the money was going to be used for. We believe that GNPC would have hurriedly approached the parliament for approval, if the massaged justification given by the CEO was really true and the company had nothing to hide.

This whole thing smells like a stinking rot, and the so-called representatives of the people, hired and over paid to examine and authorize expenditure, must live up to expectation and do their work properly. They have a duty to make sure that the dubious loan is either cancelled or used for the intended purpose, and not allow it to go down the drain into the pockets of stomach politicians and their cronies as usual.

I am not in the least surprised at his actions of late because that was exactly what they did when in government for eight years hence his childish idea that the Ndc is doing the same. Who is stupid to misuse the euro bond like they mismanaged a lot of monies meant for the country? Like the way they carried out dirty deals when they changed our former strong cedi to the current spiritless cedis in the figment of their evil imagination they think the current government is also following the same criminal acts they inflicted on mother Ghana. Shame on them. When they were in power they only looked for what mother Ghana can do for them, their families and cronies and not what they could do for mother Ghana. They can make all the noises they can, no any government will ever surpass the kind of corruption they inflicted on mother Ghana. They have made a record that can be recorded in the Guinness book.

If the finance minister and the President feels the best way to manage the nation's fiscal problems is to take prudent measures to put the economy on track is use that means to achieve results so be it. Is he not now admitting the economy is on track? Who made it possible by bringing the depreciation under control, is it the NPP? is it him Bawumia (a fake of an economist like his boss; a fake lawyer)? He should bury his ignorance in the sand and allow the competent minister and bankers that he never was, do their job! He is a nuisance and a disgrace feeding on rumours and speculations to make point. The courts are there for him to make his case. After all, he and his boss knows the door steps of the courts better with their pink sheet nonsense! He can also wait for the citizenry to give them the opportunity to govern through the ballot box to also religiously follow whatever means practical to them to get things done in the midst of crisis manufactured by an irresponsible opposition that he is part of.

HIPC was the cause of the stability we saw during the NPP era. Our interest payment commitments was virtually slashed to zero.
We saved much as a result. Kuffours era had the luxury of experiencing low oil prices for a better part of her regime. This luxury has eluded the present NDC government till present.

The current NDC government inherited debts from NPP era that needed to be serviced too. So cummulatively the debt servicing will not be the same. Common sense suggests that interest payments on HIPC@s zero (2000) and the cummulative (NPP + NDC) debt's interest in 2014 will not be the same.

Bawumia is being disingenious. The problem with Ghana now is foreign grants to support budget is dwindling because major economic powers are no longer being supportive because their respective economies are not doing well either. Majority are just coming out of recession.
This politics of disingenuity does not make sense. The major causes of slide in exchange rates are inflation and interest rate.

Fortunately world prices of Oil is going down so with a bit of luck the exchange rate will experience stability. The 17.5% tax on petroleum products was not well thought true I mus admit.

The low prices of oil prices now is an opportune time to kick start the economy to produce more to encourage more exports.

The power crisis has not helped either.

It's interesting to note, in spite of all the worsening economic situation, that John Mahama still believes he should be allowed to stay in power, beyond 2016 elections.

They've messed the economy up so bad that it really stinks! Things continue to fall apart; some have gone on to commit suicide, just to ease the pain. People can't make ends meet that's why all the horrible news we're hearing each day. But the NDC don't give a damn about that; they don't care what happens to Ghanaians.
