If we want things to work better for us, there must be a call for an adjustment to what SALARY PARLIAMENTARIANS TAKE HOME. Left in their hands, they would want to take 'the whole world' home, and things will never get better for the people of Ghana. There are just too many selfish and insensitive people representing us in parliament. THEY DON'T DESERVE WHAT THEY GET.
I am looking forward to the day when voters will use their head in selecting good people to represent them in parliament, not just 'anybody taking cover under a popular party'. Many 'rubbish' have landed in parliament because of bad choice by voters. The legislature which should have been as powerful as the executive arm of government is therefore very useless. Many frankly are not materials for parliament. A rubber stamp parliament is as useless as anything you can think of. When you have people who don't have a mind of their own, there is nothing called conscience in their head that prompt them about their action. The masses will suffer until they learn to put right thinking representatives in parliament. A zombie parliamentarian only serves the interest of his group, not the nation, and that is the choice Ghanaians have made. IF THEIR TAKE HOME PAY IS JUST LIKE ANY OTHER CIVIL SERVANT'S, Ghana will get better quickly. Today, somebody is manufacturing cars in Ghana, yet parliament see nothing wrong in importing common furniture from China and completely closing their eyes to what this good citizen is doing. If you encourage the importation of common furniture (producers seen everywhere in Ghana)would you order made in Ghana cars? We need SMART, HONEST AND SELFLESS PEOPLE in parliament

Chief, I agree with you that a new ministry is not required to deal with the energy crisis. Instead, the President should have sacked the minister for Energy who has failed and is incompetent. All what is required is effective and efficient Energy Minister with one deputy who will be responsible for power generation and distribution. How can there be separate ministries for Energy and Power? Is power not part of Energy? Waste of scarce resources.
The President should have sacked the MD of ECG long time ago also for incompetence. Until Mahama takes on incompetent ministers and heads of public institutions, his presidency will fail abysmally

Any Tunisian or Burkinabee-syle revolution in this country will have to start from the parliament as it happened in Burkina Faso. Our parliamentarians are so hopeless that the Executive can easily manipulate them to deplete our coffers or even become dictator. If someone hadn't blown the whistle about the GNPC's $700mln dubious loan, the booty could have been shared and squandered without our notice. And our Parliament should have been at the forefront calling for the CEO to resign.
Obviously, Ghanaians are still not hearing the whole story, and we may never know exactly what the money was going to be used for. We believe that GNPC would have hurriedly approached the parliament for approval, if the massaged justification given by the CEO was really true and the company had nothing to hide.
This whole thing smells like a stinking rot, and the so-called representatives of the people, hired and over paid to examine and authorize expenditure, must live up to expectation and do their work properly. They have a duty to make sure that the dubious loan is either cancelled or used for the intended purpose, and not allow it to go down the drain into the pockets of stomach politicians and their cronies as usual.

Politics in Ghana today is the gateway to affluence hence we see potential MPs borrowing money to finance their campaign. They go to all extremes including consultation of oracles, juju men, pastors and mallams to help them win their seats.
The above would rationalize why our MPs would suppress their political differences and unanimously approve huge salaries and ex-gratias for themselves at the expense of the people who elevated them to these positions that they want us to call honorable .
It is a sad reality that these MPs are selfishly parochial in everything they deliberate on in parliament . They only pursue issues that yield financial reward to them. It is therefore not surprising to see our MPs grow fat and acquire properties all over. Some of them especially those from the North turn to invest their ill-gotten wealth in Accra because they don't want their constituents to see how rich they have become.
Interns of their contribution on the floor of parliament , these MPs come now where near their British counterparts who are using public transport to work instead of V8s. To the British MPs, it is a calling and a sacrificial job where as the Ghanaian MP sees it as an opportunity to get rich .
The time is fast approaching when the citizens would refuse to vote because they are simply powering some greedy, hungry and dishonest individuals who are never going to serve their interest.

Remember, amongst the MPs are seasoned and very Senior Professionals, Professors, Medical Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers. The salaries MPs receive are less than that received by the compatriots of these professionals in public and private institutions!!
Why do we post such uninformed communication for such diverse and disparate audience?
Why are we doing these to ourselves?
Please, let us learn to be circumspect!!

Thomas Jefferson, a prominent member of America's founding fathers said "the greatest danger to democracy is an uneducated or uninformed voting public” and he's been proven right over the centuries and many time over in the last decade or so. America's founding fathers did something no other nations has done by improving on the constitution of their motherland and bringing foresight, ideas and ideals to bear in the new US constitution.
What the rest of the worlds democratic wanna-be nations have done is fail miserably to be democratic and far from improving upon America's constitution to create an even better society. Hence every nation that tried its hands at democratic rule have failed while deluding themselves into thinking they practice some form of democracy which exposes immaturity, stupidity and above all tribal and religious schisms that plaque society.
What belies the foolishness in Ghana is the common belief that classroom educated Ghanaians hold the key to God's given wisdom to mankind. And so for as long as the voting public thinks, believe and accept that all things wise rest with our educated class we are free and willing to accept the screwing we bear each day each passing year. There are many in Ghana who swallow up as God’s gospel truth any trash that comes out of the mouth of any classroom educed clown that walks in Ghana or in the Diaspora and or any retard with some level of classroom education that serves in parliament. In essence the majority under educated, ill-informed and mostly uneducated voting public have made it easy for anyone who pretends to speak so well in the Queens English to dictate and command whatever salary/wages they darn well please. What would we think of them if they did not handsomely pay themselves for a lousy job they do?
