Ghanaians will never forget the fact that you used government money to renovate your own house, that you presided over a party that engaged in dealing in illicit drugs, like cocaine---yes, Ghanaians can't forget that under your leadership of Ghana, bags of cocaine simply disappeared from the Police Headquarters in Accra, the Inspector General of Police being an Asanteman like yourself---and when you appointed your so-called commission to investigate the disappearance, you only got Theodora Wood to declare that the findings of the commission was inconclusive, thus saving yourself and your party, the Police Chief as well as the Asantehene, in whose palace some of the cocaine were allegedly traced to, etc. No wonder you promoted Theodora over and above all her seniors on the bench to her current position of Chief Justice. Ghanaians can't forget the fact that soon following your assumption of the presidency, you circumvented a Supreme Court decion that went against you by merely increasing their number from 9 to 12, which turned its earlier decision in your favour; Ghanaians will not forget how you so cheaply sold GhanaTelecom to Vodafone for which you allegedly took a huge bribe.

These are among the numerous corrupt practices you engaged in during your presidency, corrupt practices that Ghanaians can't forget, but time and space don't allow us to cite more.

He even created a special award for himself whilst he was the sitting President and ungraciously awarded it to himself. By so-doing he enlisted himself into the much disparaged league of farcical African leaders who do not seem to understand the suffering and the woes of the African people.

Now on a more serious note, I dont recall that ex-President Kufuor achieved anything near noticeable in the agric sector whilst he was President of Ghana for eight long years. So I ask myself, on what basis is he being awarded by this unknown -or I should charitably say, little-known mushroom organization whose existence is probably premised on the need for another bunch of idle-minded decrepit African intellectuals to make a self-serving quick buck by making an industry out of the problems of Africa?

If Kufuor did anything sustainable and worth crediting him with, in the agric sector, why is it that up to today as we speak, most farm produce, which is still produced only on the efforts of poor illiterate rural farmers, most of whom have never ever met an agric extension officer in their lives, are still locked-up and get rotten on farms as was shamelessly stated by the current equally inept Agric Minister last week or so? The unfortunate situation in the agric sector before Kufuor, remains the same today. Nothing, except perhaps for the rhetoric, has changed.

Kufuor and his like-minded lot should by now know that nobody gives a damn about these dubious self-serving awards. If anything at all, it rather creates a lot of disenchantment against him and further gives us all the impression that mediocrity is the target to reach out for in life.

The respondent speech which was read out by his loyal factotum, makes his case even worse.

In that speech, Kufuor seems to be prescribing capital intensive resolutions of developed capitalist nations to be used by aimless African nations. Now most of these African nations are so poor that they actually depend on international charity to even hold elections to elect the likes of Kufuor. So where will they get the money from to fund such fanciful and glamorous agric projects?

I think that the Daily Guide should rather take it upon itself to concentrate on improving their editorial substance, content and most of all, the incomprehensible English which they inflict the sensibilities of their readers with each and every copy that is produced everyday. Reading the Daily Guide and trying to avoid the linguistic land-mines, irritates one to the point of banging ones head against the nearest wall.

Im not even saying that Im looking for language purity in their presentations but when reading the Daily Guide is like playing a game which called, 'find the substance of the story in this article', I can assure the editors and management of that paper that, it makes one cheated when one buys a copy of their paper.

The Daily Guide does have the potential to reach further heights, or even mantain a reasonable standard, but I insist that I will not applaud mediocrity and professional ineptitude - and nobody else in a society that is unforgivably backward, should.

Our journalists, in their entirety, should also know that they owe us a duty to give us the best - not only in presentation but also in substance of stories and articles. If they can do just that, we will not only overlook their claims for soli but we will in addition, make the soli more enticing and worthwhile.
