Thee government must be smart and support all tertiary institutions to switch from electricity to renewable energy by 2018 in order to free the expensive and scarce power badly needed to power industry. This is what is called VISION.

The Minority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu says a whopping amount of $23 billion cannot be accounted for by the NDC government from 2009 till date. The amount forms a large chunk of a $27 billion loan contracted by the Mills and Mahama government for purposes of infrastructural development.

The Suame MP made the revelation on the floor of Parliament Wednesday, to wind up the debate on the 2015 Budget Statement.

According to him, the NDC administration has since 2009 borrowed over $27 billion, an amount which did not include oil proceeds and government revenues. Unfortunately, he added, 90 percent of the money had gone into recurrent expenditure.

"In the 2015 budget the Minister of Finance has enumerated a number of signature projects that have been financed by these borrowings since 2009…the total expenditure of which come to $3.5 billion out of the $27 billion borrowed. So where is the rest of the money?" he demanded.

"How do you account for the $23.5 billion, Mr. Minister?" he demanded further. He hinted the minority will haul the Minister of Finance before the House to answer to Ghanaians what the unaccounted amount was used for.

Some 3-months ago we saw, read or heard of the death of some university students at Cape Vars stemming from cholera. A dysentery issue that in this day and age should not be an issue at any post secondary institution in Ghana if lectures and department heads were well endowed with wisdom and foresight instead of mere classroom earned credentials without linkages to realities of implied application. Cape Vars campus sits on a forest location with some of its land still unplanned and undeveloped. It does not take much electricity to create a community base mulching factory that will facilitate a fruit and vegetable farms on campus that is managed and worked by students, faculty and staff. This would ensure students get healthy, properly handled harvest that could minimize the unsanitary products and produce sold around campus by some in the Cape Coast area. This is just an application of basic agricultural and horticultural know how which needs no continued and uninterrupted electricity but use of campus trash to generate compost as substitute for fertilizer.
There are other practical uses of mans own activities and waste generated thereof that our universities choose to ignore because it has been far too easy to blame the lack of foresight and innovative skills on the absences of ideals. Get up and act as leaders and lecturers of our youth and prepare them for a more difficult and competitive era that is coming and stop the excuses. At no time in Ghana's 50+years did the nation have adequate electricity and or all the tools needed by institutions and yet those who knew how to fish with worms to get more fish for consumption did just that; there is no room for tired excuses.

As VC he should think about alternatives as his predecessors did. He shouldn't be making any noise. He is not serious and must resign. He is a disgrace. He must pay the teaching practice supervision allowance to teachers before making the noise. We are quick to creatisize but slow do do what is within our domain.

Again,I suspect some imbalance here.How many Teachers in that category go on retirement each year as against these 8000 + graduates from Winneba University alone,not to talk about those from other Universities .Is there any corresponding national plans of employment opportunities ? Anyway.
What I have personally observed is that,Ghana leadership knowing how Parents are concerned about Education of their Children,capitalizes on Education to confuse the Citizenry.
That was exactly Mahama's Education policy switch from nowhere as announced by Hon Ablakwa.aka Sharp Teeth.Ghanaians should opened their minds and eyes wide get all of the tricks of those clueless politicians.

It is said that while some districts pay high electricity tariffs others pay next to nothing. It is also said that within the same neighborhoods in the Accra/Tema Megapolis tariffs vary from house to house.

All the same, I support you on the grounds that the ECG must publish the rate (how many Cedis per kWh)so that everybody can roughly calculate how much they have to pay at the end of the month.

In Germany for instance, we pay between 0,20 Euro/kWh and 0,3 Euro/kWh (depending on part of the day) so that at the end of the month on can approximately know how much they have to pay.

Also when customers know the rate, they can fight any incorrect bills.

It doesn't make sense to rely on one or two power producer, with a population of over 25 million. Quite embarrassing!

Nevertheless, i thought universities were supposed to be centers of research and development. What have they done about these erratic power supply besides teaching Shakespeare?

I imagine someone from the ruling Government, most probably a senior official from the ministry of Education would consider, and understand the awful damage being caused by the recent random interruption of power supply to most academic institutions in this country. This undesirable play with energy supply to the various learning institutions must be reduced or stopped to improve the students. chances of earning better degrees. The quality of degrees earned by students today in these institutions would help determine the future of this nation. It is therefore imperative for our ruling governments to look after these students so they can achieve their ends without unnecessary, interruptible power supply to those academies of learning in the country.
