Frankly, I don't see anything wrong with the President's decision to dissolve the NACOB Board. He appointed them and found out that they weren't doing their work as he'd expected and he fired them. In fact, I blame him for not going far enough to fire the CEO as well. He shouldn't even stop there, he should go on to demand the prosecution and dismissal of all the officers at the VIP lounge, the airport security officers and the foreign affairs officers that facilitated export of the drugs.

On the other hand, I don't agree with Mr. Mahama for sending BNI to intimidate and harass journalists who reported on the Nayele Ametefeh cocaine scandal. The government should've sued them in an open court for defamation as any aggrieved person or entity would've done in a democratic system, if it felt that false information had been published against it. This is because Ghanaians don't want NDC to return to its dictatorial and intimidatory tactics of the P/NDC era and gag press freedom again.

Ghanaians think they have freedom of speech and for that they can do whatever but they don't realise that BNI has freedom of operating and for that it can do whatever it feels necessary. If this man feels that the invitation is political motivated why can't he file a suite against BNI to challenge it instead of making it seems like the BNI is hunting NPP people. What he wrote here, I think he needs to be invited too. It's not even an election year so how come everything is politics? Using the BNI to intimidate anyone exercising his or her freedom of speech is wrong. After all, if any Government Official believes some dangerous lies are being peddled by another entity to, not only sabotage his or her work but also, defame him or her, the Courts must be the venue to seek proper redress.

The order to anyone to substantiate their allegation against another must come from the Court, and not the BNI.

The only time, I believe, the BNI has to jump ahead of the Courts in taking any suspect in for questioning is when the suspect has uttered something that threatens the security of the Nation.

After abrogating the libel Laws of 1992 Constitution, many think they have the ABSOLUTE freedom to say anything without repercussions. That is not wholly true. Strictly speaking, one has the freedom to say anything one wants. No one or authority has the right to tape another's lips.

Nevertheless, just as any person has the right to freely say anything, if what was said offends, or threatens the legal existence of another entity, the latter also reserves the right to sue or bring the former to Court for corrective actions.

Therefore, we must not run around saying whatever we want because we have freedom of Speech. We have freedom of Speech but not freedom to hurt anyone. If we verbally assault, we must be ready to defend our action or utterance in Court as legally justified. The fact that we are entitled to freedom of speech alone does not adequately provide us the defense against any suit of maliciously maligning another entity.

In this case, the BNI may not have intervened. But the NDC could drag that guy to Court to substantiate his allegations against the Party, or pay the Court's granted damages to the Party, or some other legal sanction.

One might suggest that the BNI could consider Mr. Alhassan's utterance as an allegation against it that it did not do its job. Well, even in that case, no criminal assertion was made, and the best the BNI could do was simply suit him at the Courts. After all, the BNI is a Public (State) Institution that everyone has the freedom to question its performance. Such questioning does not constitute a crime to be arrested for.

The NDC, on the other hand, has a strong or more serious criminal allegation case on which to bring Mr. Alhassan to Court. To charge that the NDC has "turned Ghana's VVIP Lounge at the Kotoka International Airport into a thoroughfare for smuggling Cocaine" is a damning serious allegation that no entity must take lightly and but equally forcefully contest. That NDC could do by itself through Lawyers. But not through the BNI.

So, the BNI must not be seen to be doing NDC's work for it, especially, if it wouldn't do the same for NPP or CPP or any other Party. That would be misuse of a Government Institution by a Political Party.
