  These nations with natural resource wealth on average have worse financial economies than nations who don't. Why you ask? Weak institutions, corruption, bad governors, managers!

  What is "Dutch Disease"?
  A percentage of proceeds from oil, gold, diamonds, cocoa revenues etc should be deposited yearly in a Ghana Sovereign Wealth Fund account, a national 401k. This money will never be touched by any govt, period! This money will be invested all over the world in socially constructive projects. Projects to be excluded can include chemical nuclear projects, environmentally disastrous projects, product based exclusions, tobacco, walmart(human rights abuses). The ROI from this fund will be used to supplement infrastructure projects. Is Ghana a cursed, weak institution? Yes, I agree whole heartedly!
  
  How to stop Corruption
  1. Corruption Sensitivity Training: Educate the executives(attorney general, the judges, public officials, immigration, police officers)about the short, long term effects and impacts of corruption. Corruption Sensitivity Training should be a mandatory part of interview process, class, testing requirement for all ministers and public sector officials. Make them aware of the consequences and have them sign off on this. If judges, police officers, employees are educated and made to understand the explicit and implicit impacts of corruption and how it affects their own salaries, bonuses etc. Things will change!
  2. Enforce the Law: Offenders must face jail time, tickets/fines, sell assets to payback what has been stolen, name and shame offenders in media
  3. Put ethical persons in positions of power,
  4. yearly revenue audits brief
  5.NPP: Narcotic Peddlers Party, NDC: Niggas Deep in Corruption

  Any Tunisian or Burkina bee-style revolution in this country will have to start from the parliament as it happened in Burkina Faso. Our parliamentarians are so hopeless that the Executive can easily manipulate them to deplete our coffers, or even twist their arms to become an iron fist dictator. If someone hadn't blown whistle on the GNPC's $700mln dubious loan, the booty could have been shared and squandered without our notice. And our Parliament should have been at the forefront calling for the CEO to resign.

  Democracy works where the people are civilized,educated knows the law and abide by it.We fail in all these so why do you worry about democracy for Ghana,the people who are been thought to wash their hands before eating,they go to toilet in a bag and trow it into the gutter,they build houses without toilets,thinks democracy means one can make a phone call to a live radio call in and insult the president.as far as i am concerned democracy in Ghana is not working and will not work,we need a sort of government that suits our character and behavior.

  Earlier this year Presi­dent Mahama was in Brussels, the EU headquarters, cup in hand asking the European authorities to release the £135 million withhold cash, but nothing came out of it.
  
  Now it has come out that the delay in releasing the money was as a result of corruption, resulting from massive payroll fraud.
  
  Government blamed the Single Spine Pay Policy but it has turned out that over 20% of the names on the payroll are 'ghosts' created by the administration osten­sibly to reward party activists.
  
  The all-powerful Euro­pean Parliament - the leg­islative arm of the EU - was last week informed about what the Sunday Times described as "potential irregularities and misman­agement" claims which the anti-fraud agency is already probing.
  
  The Sunday Times reports that "according to estimates, more than 1% of Ghana's GDP - several hun­dred million pounds - was spent on 'ghost workers' last year."
  
  The paper reveals fur­ther that estimates put the percentage of fictitious workers at beyond 20% of the workforce.
  
  The potential abuse of EU aid by those at the helm of affairs in Ghana, the newspaper maintains, is an apt indication that UK funds distributed by the Depart­ment for International Development (DfID) could suffer a similar fate.
