Ghana Health Directorate is just focusing on treating disease, but does little to prevent people from catching diseases. this cholera can simple be prevented with good health promotions and better health policies. the upstream problem associated with this cholera epidemic is that there is no provision of good drinking water, safe environment and health education. on the other hand, individual people also need to be responsible for their own health. people need to wash their hands before and after eating food and toilet, cover food all the time from flies.

Whilst I do not blame the Mion DCE for his ignorance, it is important to state that DRUGS are not the solution to treating cholera, rather appropriate re-hydration of patients, proper isolation and observation of strict hygienic and safety practices among health workers and others involved in the treatment of patients.
Good personal hygienic practices and environmental safety, proper environmental sanitation and safe waste disposal are inexpensive yet effective means of preventing cholera in the first place and one would prefer to hear from the DCE how they are tackling the spread of the disease by these means.
As we have all seen, a lack of understanding of the natural history and behaviour of Ebola was partly responsible for the late detection of index cases. Ignorance and cultural practices helped it to spread, and poor responses from a whole host of individuals, groups etc. led to it becoming a global health crisis.
I hope people in authority such as the DCE will take the trouble to be properly BRIEFED by the health authorities before they make public statements about a health issue of which they know very little.

The current practice where newly inducted doctors called house officers with no experience whatsoever are left to experiment with (attend to) serious medical cases while residents, specialists and consultants are away must be put to a stop immediately. There must be at least one specialist present 24 hours in three shift rotations to supervise them. Our health system as it is presently is not the best. The situation in the countryside and rural communities is even worse.
Do not doubt the wisdom in these words.
