Lack of regard for proper driving protocols and respect for one another is the main cause. In civilize society when a traffic light breaks down at the intersection, drivers take turns to move however in Ghana every driver tries to squeeze through leading to jamming. The police is corrupt, there are no penalty for irresponsible driving and so do you need Europeans to change your mind set? to teach you how to impose penalties ? This is a shame.

You lazy ass buffoons never want to walk a fraction of a mile to go and wait on any scheduled transportation system. This has nothing to do with Ghanaians being incompetent of solving the traffic problems in the Country.Most of the traffic jams are caused by indiscipline from the Drivers and the Police.Traffic regulations are not being enforced by the Police,infact the worse offenders are the Police,Trotros and Taxi Drivers.Ghanaians are simply not respecter of laws.If Drivers and Pedestrians and other road users will be disciplined the traffic jam problem will reduce dramatically.After all how many Cars and Lorries do we have in Ghana?But a European city with the same Car population like ,say Accra will not face the problems Accra is facing,because there laws are enforced,drivers are disciplined and the Police don't drive in the opposite direction anytime there is a traffic jam.

The planned circular road around Accra will alleviate most of the problem. That model will work in all other major cities. A circular road allows drivers to drive on the outskirts of the city till they get close to where they are going then branch off into the town centre. Such roads have no traffic lights so no one stops

Major way of controlling traffic is to put effect road signs in place. Minister of roads and transportation is no doing a good Job. Also the should be a ban to regular police checking for licenses during morning and evening rush hour just to collect bribes from drivers. A driver could be stop two three times a day during rush our all these amounts to traffic Jam. Number one policy to solve traffic Jam is to make it forbidden to block intersection. One will say is already in the books but is not strongly enforce. There should be signs at every intersection saying "DON'T BLOCK INTERSECTION". This will help free flowing of cars.

Railways are down, roads are bad , air travel and fuels too expensive. All these make movement expensive and our leaders are waiting money on useless projects just for cuts!If a white man comes he will just tell us to fix our roads and railways first and move the heavy goods by rail to remove the heavy trucks off the road, then properly repair the potholes and unnecessary rumps on the roads. Then re configurate the traffic light and make them work.These will go a long way to reduce traffic jams

We all agree that there are too many vehicles on Accra roads causing the traffic jams. An interim solution is to implement a system of alternate days for vehicles with even and odd numbered plates to enter Accra during week days. Weekends can be for all vehicles. Of course effective traffic policing and law enforcement must be stepped up implement this system. Regular maintenance of Accra roads with asphalt resurfacing will eliminate pot holes. Change most of the two-way narrow streets into one-way streets and still have parking lanes on the sides where possible. The long term solution will be to implement the Accra Central Elevated Monorail transit system. Put the KNUST Department of Engineering and other allied institutions to work on traffic solutions like traffic lights design, construction and management. The Govt. Minister of for Roads and Transport must sit up and implement some of these ideas. We have the resources in Ghana, let's organize and implement solutions.

1. To reduce or organize the number of vehicles,all mini buses must convert to long buses because for the same number of passengers that one big bus will take ,you need about 5 mini buses.
All heavy trucks must operate in the night to deliver materials and stores
Alternative minor routes must be constructed to reduce volumes on major routes

Our motorway is terrible holes.ut could be patch with just a trip of stone chipping while we wait for the promises. Its killing people.Looking at how much is collected it baffles me who is really in charge of this country. Does the President ply it its a direct order that will solve it.Drive from here to the north.Roads tgat where constructed during President Rawling And President Kufour ara are full of pot holes.Even right at toll boots its bad.
Monies are collected daily from people.Who is in charge.Its bad its not politics.When it comes to accidents it doesn't kw who is NDC and NPP.

Well, Konadu, if the Europeans helped you in the years you and your spouse were in office to manage traffic in Ghana, why have you not learnt anything to be able to do so on your own after they left? You're just a waste of time wanting to lead a political party when you can't see past your belly button. When the Europeansd came to help you manage traffic, should you not have allowed them to train students in technical schools and universities on traffic control so that they too can teach their fellow Ghanaians? You're one person always looking for fish instead of seeking to be taught how to fish so that you can continue to catch fish long after your teacher is gone. We have the educated and trained personnel in Ghana who can do as good a job as the Europeans in traffic control. The problem in Ghana lies with you worthless politicians who use partisan political lenses to cloud your vision and refuse to allow Ghanaian experts to discharge their duties.
