PEPE, pls Mamprusis dont need to go back to Mamprusiland to celebrate their festival. The Mamprusis, Dagombas, and Nanumbas who were brother princes and had military power came to Ghana when other smaller tribes had existed and ruled over the smaller tribes in some ways (some fully, others halfway). The old military powers simply need to understand that things have changed over time. Some smaller but resilient tribes like Kusasis have regained their total independence through the court of law. The Mamprusis simply have to recognise the Overlord of the Bawku traditional area who is a Kusasi per the court declaration. This way they should celebrate their festival in peace at Bawku. Other major tribes in Bawku such as the Moshies pay homage to the Kusasi Chief, why not Mamprusi? I am from Navrongo and the last time i visited Bawku i was shocked at the destruction done to this once most progressive city in the whole of the U.E/R. The Kassenas and Frafras are fast overtaking the people of Bawku because of living together in peace. Why fight for festivals and live in abject poverty or even die?

Why should Mamprusis be denied the privilege of celebrating DAMBA FESTIVAL?

THERE are CLEAR BOUNDARIES separating MAMPRUSIS from KUSASIS. It appears to me the inter ethnic peace committee is unnecessary.

The boundaries between Kusasis and Mamprusis have to be observed to prevent clashes.

The Mamprusis reminded the government of Article 26 (1) of the 1992 Ghana's consitution which permits were traditional area to celebrate its festival.

I personally saw no justification in denying the Mamprusis the right to celebrate the Damba Festival.

The days of inter-tribal wars are gone. What is required now is peace and understanding.

He stuck to his guns through all the insults and threats to halt GFA and force them to address his grievances.If you are not willing to stand up for yourself don't expect the rest us to stand by you.

I have read several of your comment and like this one you posted I don't fully agree with you but you do have a point.You do not have all the facts to call us cry babies because we are not.We are being strong armed by the president's people with his approval I suspect.Any attempt to resolve it is prevented.I hope to be able to start a movement to educate people of what is really going on in the North and the provocative actions we have had to swallow just to maintain peace.

What kinda nonsense is that, there's no tribe call Kusasi, it's hausa word meaning "put it on him" we only have tounde and agoley which means " first and top" it goes to explain this way, these group of tribes were smaller ones in neighbouring Burkina Faso who move to find settlement in bawku, the tounde (first) people find their settlement and the agoley(top) people later followed. It was post independence days that the word kusasi was first mentioned, please go and read the history of NAA GBEWAH and you will know how great a man he was, who first settle in bawku precisely Pusiga. Mind you that the oldest Kingdom in Ghana is NAA GBEWAH KINGDOM

His sons Tohagu, Sitobu, and Muntambu moved from Pusiga towards the south and established their kingdoms. Tohagu founded the Mamprusi kingdom, Sitobu founded the Dagbon state, and Muntambu founded the Nanum kingdom. There was'nt any tribe called mamprusi in Bawku when the Kusasis came. They should learn their history and stop that unnecessary agitations.

The President of the country whose duty is to represent all tribes whether they voted for his party or not seems to be at the fore front of dividing people who have intermarried for so many years.. Some Ill conceived Mamprusis did vote for the NDC even though their own son was on the ticket of the NPP. The President by helping to celebrate one activity and ban one shows a lack of insight and as a historian his lack of knowledge of the history of the Mole-Dagbani heritage even though he boasts that he is the son of Jakpa which is debatable. He is letting divisive people like Ayariga and Avoka who have parents of the fuding tribes advise him that is why the country is in a mess. Work to unite the Kusasi's and Mamprusi's rather than dividing them after all Dagombas, Gonjas,Nanumbas and kusasi's are our own . Thanks, Mr. President. Note, if you don't find a way to solve this problem how do you expect the Asanteman to. You are the person both sides will respect to negotiate a peaceful resolution to this conflict. In the future you will look back to this opportunity and regret that instead of solving it you perpetuated it. There are many willing and capable Kusasi's and Mamprusi's who can help you solve this problem instead of always listening to the ones who want to see you fail.Thanks and I hope you have gone to Jakpa's grave to pour libation before claiming to be his son. Bulsis they celebrate Feo festival, HOMOWO celebrated by Gas,FETU AFAHYE (Harvest commemorating first contact with whites)for the people of Cape Coast (Oguaa,DAMBA celebrated by people of Tamale/Yendi,Begum festival Celebrated in Dagbon, Gonja, Mamprusi and Nanumba etc. So Mamprusis should go back to Northern region and celebrate whatever festival they would like to celebrate.
Samanpiid is never celebrated anywhere apart from Bawku traditional area. Period!

The Mamprusis, Dagombas, and Nanumbas who were brother princes and had military power came to Ghana when other smaller tribes had existed and ruled over the smaller tribes in some ways (some fully, others halfway). The old military powers simply need to understand that things have changed over time. Some smaller but resilient tribes like Kusasis have regained their total independence through the court of law. The Mamprusis simply have to recognise the Overlord of the Bawku traditional area who is a Kusasi per the court declaration. This way they should celebrate their festival in peace at Bawku. Other major tribes in Bawku such as the Moshies pay homage to the Kusasi Chief, why not Mamprusi? I am from Navrongo and the last time i visited Bawku i was shocked at the destruction done to this once most progressive city in the whole of the U.E/R. The Kassenas and Frafras are fast overtaking the people of Bawku because of living together in peace. Why fight for festivals and live in abject poverty or even die?
I salute the Gonjas who have learnt to live together in peace with smaller tribes like the Vaglas,and have even gone ahead to speak Vagli in large measure.

So d place became Kusaasi's. the Mamprusi's left with their king n settled at another place leaving few of dem in Bawku. it is these few ones hu refused to migrate with their chiefs hu ar now causing these troubles. it is on record dt d Mamprusi's v bn celebrating d damba festival in their main jurisdiction. so y can't these ppl move to join their colleagues than wanting to v Anoda one in Bawku? when its time for a festival, ppl all over move to d place Bt do nt v their festivals bn celebrated at various places. contact me for a full history of d Bawku
