“In the last six years, the NDC has borrowed US$27 billion. Before that, we, the NPP, borrowed a total of US$5.5 billion in eight years. Compare that to the NDC borrowing $27 billion in six years and ask yourself what they have done with all that money,” the running mate to Nana Akufo-Addo said.

He said, though a lot more money has been spent, it is a paradox of economic management that this level of excessive spending has only led to greater hardships being visited on the people.

“NDC inherited a public debt stock of GHS9.5 billion in 2009,” the former Deputy Governor of the central bank said. “Today, Ghana’s debt has gone up to GHS65.7 billion. So when I say the stakes are high I am talking about the destiny of our country, Ghana, the future of the youth.”

“The NDC has been taxing everything, including condoms and cutlasses. In terms of resources, this NDC government has had more resources than any other government. We did not have oil. Yet, Ghanaians know what we did with the limited resources we had. We spent money responsibly to create the NHIS, introduce Capitation Grant, expand access to education, we spent wisely on infrastructure and built more roads than any other government,” he said.

What is "Dutch Disease"?
A percentage of proceeds from oil, gold, diamonds, cocoa revenues etc should be deposited yearly in a Ghana Sovereign Wealth Fund account, a national 401k. This money will never be touched by any govt, period! This money will be invested all over the world in socially constructive projects. Projects to be excluded can include chemical nuclear projects, environmentally disastrous projects, product based exclusions, tobacco, walmart(human rights abuses). The ROI from this fund will be used to supplement infrastructure projects. Is Ghana a cursed, weak institution? Yes, I agree whole heartedly!

ZERO TOLERANCE FOR CORRUPTION!
1. Corruption Sensitivity Training: Educate the executives(attorney general, the judges, public officials, immigration, police officers)about the short, long term effects and impacts of corruption. Corruption Sensitivity Training should be a mandatory part of interview process, class, testing requirement for all ministers and public sector officials. Make them aware of the consequences and have them sign off on this. If judges, police officers, employees are educated and made to understand the explicit and implicit impacts of corruption and how it affects their own salaries, bonuses etc. Things will change!
2. Enforce the Law: Offenders must face jail time, tickets/fines, sell assets to payback what has been stolen, name and shame offenders in media
3. Put ethical persons in positions of power,
4. yearly revenue audits brief

I think President Mahama suffers from making promises. I thought he promised not make promises again. What has changed? If President Mahama thinks because he has created power ministry and appointed minister for power, dumsor will end, he is deceiving himself. I read about Dr Kwabena Donkor ordering power producers to end dumsor in six months. That is simply wishful thinking because he must put in place policies that will end dumsor and not just mere orders. Even if credible policies are implemented to increase power generation and reduce power waste and theft, it will take time for the full impact to be realised and not within six months. Unless of course, new power generation are coming into operations very soon. The power crisis needs long term strategic solutions and not adhoc measures such as draconial orders from a minister. Happy New Year.

The implication here is that dumsor is deliberately carried out so that a mere order can correct it. Now here comes the president himself wishing Ghanaians that dumsor will be banished in 2015. What stopped him from banishing it in 2014? Instead of indicating concrete steps that is being taken to end dumsor he leaves us in a state of doubt, how? I think the president and his team have the magic wand as such by merely saying it, things will change. If that is the case why should they delay in using their magic powers?

Mother Ghana is crying for help but who will surface to lead her? Son of Jakpa is totally useless and incapable to lift her from the economic downpit mother Ghana found herself. Son of Jakpa should seize from this useless promises and leave the people of Ghana alone to think twice in next election and not to follow the likes of the Krobo Chief who made an irresponsible comments that his people will join him to vote for son of Jakpa and his party no matter what.
