What private company will operate this way, can't even collect their debts. "It is estimated that ECG is owed about Ghc500 million in accumulated debt by both state institutions and private firms". And yet they talk about bringing back Ghana Airways. What a bunch of stupid fools or is it insanity, as they say doing the same dumb stuff but expecting different results.

At the end of the day the citizens are burden with high tariffs to make up for the government institutions failure to pay their bills. I believe if the chief had stood firm the bills wld ve been settled.

David Amoah,you are right in your suggestions as to how to collect the debt owed to the ECG.However,you surely don't think it is the responsibility of the Minister to collect the debt?It is up to the ECG to take the appropriate steps.In England,when you get the bill,you have 2 weeks to pay.If you fail to do so,you get a reminder.If after that,you still fail to pay,debt collectors get involved and it could even go to court.In either case,further cost is added to the amount owed so,it is never in one's interest not to pay bills.ECG must blame themselves for pissing about.If they go bust,it serves them fucking right.Ghanaians must also learn to be responsible and honest.How do Ghanaians expect the country to develop and move forward if they don't want to pay for anything.Where is the money going to come from for the needed improvements?Be sensible my countrymen.

Get to work and stop complaining. Managing ECG does not require you to sit in an air conditioned office and talk about the numerous problems. Start disconnecting both state and private power. If they can pay for their cell phones, then they should be able to pay their electric bills!

We need to take a clue from the telecom industry. How is TICO, Vodafone able to survive. Have we thought about decentralizing the operation of EGC. Why is the generation of power and transmission solely in the hands of a few companies. Why don't we privatize it like the various private universities, telecom institution so they can compete and bring about efficiency and cost reduction. We have been made to believe generation of power is rocket science but a visit to the state of Ohio showed that it is very simple and there are companies who can fly in overnight with their tech. and generate power using a medium size river which are plentiful in Ghana and so if a community has electric lines they can easily supply power to households more efficiently and cheaply . We need a business minded person at the power ministry and not a technocrat who is only narrow minded in how to generate power but does not understand the business part which is the lifeline of every endeavor.

John Mahama's NDC gov't is the biggest debtor to the ECG, and instead of paying up the debt owed ECG, so the ECG can function, and invest in the kind of technology and capacity to meet and address the electricity crisis in the country, and has consequently crippled the economic fortunes of the nation-state, they loot the money and decide to set up a ministry of power by an executive fait. Thinking that by so doing the debt the Mahama NDC gov't owes the ECG, which prevents and creates significant barriers to their performance would be solved.
If that is not the most unhinged and propagandist attempt at addressing the very core issues, which is the lack of funds due the ECG as a consequence of debt owed, resulting from thievery by the Mahama NDC gov't, then one cannot begin to wrap one's mind around as to what it could be.
When a gov't's only policy is to engage in thievery of the most outrageous, reckless and irresponsible kind ever witnessed in the history of governance in this country, with a slogan(sic) of e de bee k3k3, neglecting the very structures and foundations that propels economic growth and development, and engages in such gimmickry as the setting up a ministry of power to take the already scarce resources of the state to trumpet what even a class 6 pupil knows, which is; ECG collapsing because of the lack of funds looted on the back of thievery of the Mahama NDC gov't, then Ghana should be very afraid for the destiny of the country under this Mahama NDC gov't.
We were in this country when over $5billion dollars vanished within the last 2months of 2012. Can we begin to think of what that amount of money could have done for just electricity power generation and distribution alone in this country?
We are being told that of the total debt stock of over a mind-blowing $27billion dollars piled up within the last 6years of this Mahama NDC gov't, about $4billion dollars has been used for projects in the country leaving a difference of a staggering $23billion dollars. Can we begin to imagine what we could have achieved if even a fifth of that $23billion dollars had been used for just electricity power generation alone?
Clearly, the growth and development of Ghana has suffered needlessly and unnecessarily under this e de bee k3k3(sic) better Ghana agenda into thievery, and the earlier Ghana put the brakes on such plunder, the better for the socio-politico-economic development and growth of the country.
