We have been in this country when the uncompleted extension of the runway of Kumasi Regional Airport has been described by the Mahama NDC gov't as an ultra modern international airport comparable to any international airport in the US, Germany, France, UK, Holland, China, Hong Kong, etc, etc. So what does the Mahama NDC gov't means by an ultra modern Kumasi central market because Ghanaians have had it with mediocre leadership and propaganda.

According to him, the current labour unions' strike and the series of recorded cases of corruption, coupled with the various dubious contracts being awarded by government through parliament are similar cases that can trigger an uprising.

They have developed “yentie obia” attitude as they can always have their way through their dubious deals with a backing from the majority in Parliament to suppress the suffering masses. They feel they have the majority in Parliament to pass any bill that addresses their interest than Ghanaians.

“Ghanaians are watching how a Chinese bus which cost $70,000 is being sold to us at the cost of $270,000; they are watching how one particular company has been awarded all the construction contracts at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Tamale Airport and Kasoa interchange and yet there is no transparency”, he warned.

If the government did not want anybody to talk about the exorbitant costs of the interchanges airports, it should have come clean from the beginning; from the bidding process to the award of the contract.

If you have an open bidding process in which three or more companies bid for a project, and the submitted tender documents opened in front of all representatives of the contractors that took part in the process, and you award the contract to one of the companies based on best technical specifications and reasonable lower cost, the amount you award the contract will be known to even the other contractors, and it will not be difficult for the government to release it.

How can we award a contract to a company and the work is ongoing without knowing exactly how much we've awarded it, and we're still talking about projected figures and so on? I believe Nana is hitting the nail on the head. There is too much obscurity and lack of transparency in awarding the projects, and we're afraid that Ghanaians may not be getting value for their money.

Some like Agyarko and Osei Akoto who said the Circle,Kasoa projects and Kumasi Airport project respectively are misplaced priorities are enemies of progress but this particular question as to how they arrived at this figure is a legitimate question which the government should simply tell Ghanaians how they arrived at this figure,it may be that the contractors and the consultants teamed up to chest us because if $4m can construct a whole airport at Obuasi which I doubt if that airport meets international standard and Ethiopia can use $64m to construct 3 modern airports and we used $29m to construct just a runway which can only take Boeing 737 as reported then something is absolutely wrong.
My only problem with NPP is,they have members in parliament who will not question these estimates when they are presented to them but will vote to approve them and then make a U-Turn to say the project is over estimated,they government has cheated the people of Ghana.

As for Kwabena Agypong,the least talk about his expertise the better,he does not know what he is talking about, just guessing.
What kind of engineering is he talking about,talking about sports at TV and radio station and speaking for Kufour at the Castle is what makes him expertise in construction,where did he practice that engineering that gives him the experience to say he knows what goes into it,why not tell us?

Now, below is the full report of what the Ethiopians used the $64m for. Read it carefully.

Ethiopia is set to expand its airport reach with construction of three AIRPORT RUNWAYS in three major regional cites, with a capacity to host big jets like B737. The Ethiopian Airports Enterprise (EAE) the state company tasked with expanding and supervising Ethiopia’s increasing airports signed a $68.5 million (1.37 billion Ethiopian Birr) with three local firms who won tenders for the construction of three airport runways, on December 11, 2014.
The Runways which will each have 2,500 meters length and 60 meters width, are part of the government’s drive to boost trade and tourism ties across the country for its next ambitious economic goal named Growth and Transformation Plan II (GTP) set to start in end of 2015.

The most anticipated contract was the one for the southern city Hawassa, Ethiopia’s premier resort and tourism Hotspot as well as an industrial hub with a total cost $ 22.9 million. The contracting company is named Yotek Construction private Limited Company (PLC) with the supervisory form being Saba Engineering (Plc). The second contract pertains to runway construction for another southern city Robe Goba, won by Akir Construction PlC for $ 24.7 million and to be supervised by Transport Construction Design Plc.
Robe is better known for its proximity to the UNESCO listed natural wonder the Sof Omer Cave system, and for being an agricultural belt of Ethiopia.

With The third project being in the Far North of the country near the city of Shire, to be constructed by Ethiopian Roads Construction Corporation (ERCC) and supervised by Transport Construction Design Plc at a cost $ 20.9 million. The Third project hopes to utilize the mineral resources of the area especially gold which in that part of the country is heavily dominated by Artisanal mining.

Ethiopia is not building any airport for that amount. Ethiopia renovated the airport at a cost of $230 million. NPP, should tell us where they got their false information.

You should know. You should know a lot in construction. and stop that nonsense. All the Certificates involve are there for you to Check about the work done. If estimated contract sum is even less than what you expect, if you get to the site you see that, there are more work to be done than the estimated woorks.NPP should come out and tell Ghanians that you use only your estimated contract sum to finish a project without additional any works.And sometimes the additional works become more expensive than actual works. Please don't disturb our peace of mind.You nguys always find fault with any project NDC undertake. Can YOU, Kwabena Agyapong tell us that, he clean as Angel in construction industry. We know your PAST so Shut up. There is a lot to be done.Imagine additional Patch Works is even more than original works estimated, putting a regulating layer of asphalt(BC) of ave. of 200mm and BC with TENSAR MATS(GEO-TEXTILE)under 70mm and WC of 50mm. Expansion of shoulders to 3.5m on each side with about 400-500mm thickness of CSB and 40mm WC. Don't disturb our peace, rather find a way with Franklig Cudjo to make NPP more responsible and attractive. You are not the only Civil Engineer in NPP.
