Besides just as JJ gets blamed for judges killed under his watch, Nkrumah is responsible for any miscarriage of justice under his watch. If you are justifying the acts of imprisoning your opponents when you are in power then you are just being blinded by party affiliation. Nkrumah did a lot of good things and also made a lot of mistakes. We need to complement the good and condemn the atrocities. Africans need to progress and stop supporting blindly even in the face of gross incompetence and the committing of atrocities. The internet is not just for going on Ghanaweb and writing comments to articles. You can surely research the trial of Obetsebi Lamptey and the decision of the Supreme Court justices at the time, including Justice William Edward Akuffo-Addo, Nana Addo's father.
Research also what Mrs Vivian Kanu, formerly Genoveva Marais, then a news director at GBC, has written about the humane treatment given to the master terrorist, Obetsebi Lamptey, who was suffering from cancer through the establishment of a Medical Unit with a nurse and the supply of cancer medication.
There is also the excellent article published several times on Ghanaweb entitled, "The Case For Preventive Detention" by Ekow Nelson and Dr Gyamerah. Check it out!

I for one do not know Pratt's educational background but he often strikes me as someone who has no idea about research, especially research into matters as weighty as the use of the PDA by Nkrumah to silence his critics. And the alibi by some of Nkrumah's friends and admirers that he instituted the PDA because some people were working to overthrow and/or kill him. Anyone who was old enough in this country during the early 60s when we had become a Republic would tell you clearly that Nkrumah created the conditions for the attempts on his life. One party dictatorship, no freedom of press, no freedom of association, no academic freedom, etc. How were we expected to express our selves? The Pratts of this world should understand that JB Danquah was not nicknamed the Doyen of Ghana politics for nothing.

I also think Pratt is stupid but for entirely different reason. I prefer to focus on the logicality of his statements rather than on his relations with his own relatives. Nana Addo's whole talk was about JB Danquah and his legacy, not about Jake's father. To use what Nana Addo's father said about Jake's father in court to discredit JB Danquah is totally illogical. Moreover, whereas Jake's father was tried by a competent court of jurisdiction, JB was not. Two things are evident from this fact. First, JB did not have a fair trial and therefore could not be said to be guilty of terrorism. Indeed, did the authorities fail to give him his day in court because they knew he was innocent? Second, Nana Addo's pronouncement about Jake in court, if Pratt is to be believed, might suggest that not all UGCC members believed in terrorism and some were willing to convict their own fellow members if they committed that offence.
In fact, far from diminishing NPP's tradition, Kwesi Pratt's recent pronouncements about events of the past have raised my respect for that tradition and shall proceed to acquire a membership card. Why? Even in those tumultuous ideological years, Nana Addo's father respected his son's right to belong the party of his implacable opponents. I hear when Nana Addo ran home after Nkrumah's overthrew, his old man just laughed the whole incident and welcomed his son back home from ideological excursions.
Now, if that is not the true hallmark of a principled democrat, I don't know what is. No wonder Nana Addo comes across to me as someone who combines Nkrumah's developmentalism with UGCC's tradition of political liberty. In other words, he may turn out to represent the best of both traditions.

Danquah contested Nkrumah for the Presidency in 1960 when Ghana was to become a Republic. Danquah's detentions started in 1962 and died in prison in 1964. so Kwesi who detained Danquah. He thinks the magician is going to hate him forever, so he takes the dirty, chewed up rabbit into the house and gives it a bath, blow dries its fur and puts the rabbit back into the cage at the magician’s house, hoping he will think it died of natural causes.
A few days later, the magician is outside and asks the guy, “Did you hear that Presto my magic rabbit died?”. The guy stumbles around and says, “Um.. no.. um.. what happened?”.
