So as Interior minister, you have never visited the Prisons until the fire outbreak? And you have the brazen effrontery to admonish that the prison officials are using Yaa Asantewaa weapons. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Its a big shame for a country that claimed to have been in a revolution for 19yrs and its Prison officers are still using 1920 weapons.

they can borrow ordinary AKs from the police or G3s/M16s from the army becauseat any point in time,from my experience,these 2 institutions have huge and momentarily redundant stocks of such weapons.

The minister should be careful with his utterances and be factual. The weapons are post 2nd world war self loading rifles used by all the forces, sub machine guns and G3 rifles supplied by Rawlings regime to the Prisons Service and revolvers supplied during Kuffour's time.
He should find out if there is really cvercrowding in the whole service or that the bosses are not doing regular transfer of inmates from places of high numbers to those with space. For instance the new prison at Ankaful has capacity for 5000, yet the population was 300 until the fire case in Kumasi when 450 were sent there? What are they doing with the 4000 empty places left ? They complain they don't have transport but one special conveyance truck joined the private ones to send the 450 to Ankaful.They don't want to service their vehicles so they can sell them to their own people.The minister should shine his eyes. It is management problem.

Use those oudated weapons to lynch and keep asantes lying low like envelops.These unwelcome greedy pests must be made to realize that Ghana has its rightful owners and ashantis are merely guests but not shareholders.

K Adjapong just open his dirty mouth without pasting stinking that JDM shd Be lashed, Ghanaians wake up be men go to pouch 8am to 4pm by yourself be4 u are paid ur wages/salaries & stop this stupid atitudes, prisons are safe just be'cos of the gates. Their pay is not good, rooms not reguided to human standard, no extra funds like the police/customs/court clerks/civil servant who can depend on bribes & they live on the banku cook in prison w fried fish & hot pepper to manage. Now more harden criminals are in there knowing how to handle weapons & we're cracking joke. I petty JDM, lGP don't send guards to parliament next week period.
