It would appear that those in control of the NDC, for the time being, were bent on excluding other bona fide members of the Party who may wish to lay democratic claims to who becomes the next flag bearer of the Party by excluding them even before the mortal remains of the demised President were interred. It is also symptomatic of how political party elites in Ghana and Africa worm their way into the confidences of persons perceived as likely to ascend to power positions for purposes of eventual personal economic gain at the expense of the generality of the mass of Party members and the Nation which every President swears to serve under the Constitution

"He reminded Ghanaians of the provision in the Constitution that mandates an elected president to rule for a maximum of eight years (two terms), and said in 2016 Mahama might have served his two terms – first as a vice president with Prof. Atta Mills – and then as the president".

Is that what is contained in the Constitution? No. Mahama completed the unexpired term of President Mills so the 1992 Constitution allows him to stand for another four year term in 2016 and if elected and rule for four more years. In fact, had President Mills lived longer and been re-elected in 2012 with Mahama as his Vice for the his second term, Mahama could still stand for the presidency and if elected be eligible for a second term in his own right. That means he could serve eight years as Vice and 8 years as President, if elected.

The constitution does not make mention of 8 maximum years or two maximum terms for political parties.

If this man has not read the 1992 Constitution then he should go and read it before he opens his mouth to misinform, mis-educate and display his ignorance. If he reads the constitution and does not understand then he should seek assistance from someone to explain it to him rather than talk rubbish.

By the 1992 Constitution the same party can be in power for as long as their presidential candidates win the presidential elections and the same candidate or president does not serve more than two terms.

The fact that the experience so far since the 4th Republic has shown that the Ghanaian electorate changes party in power after two terms does not necessarily mean that is what the constitution says.

Yet, this man is called upon by the media as an expert on many legal and constitutional issues in Ghana. What a shame?

The president has been saying that he tried to introduce electronic payment and acquisition systems into the public sector {to reduce human contact with cash} in his effort to fighting corruption, but lamented that the systems were often resisted.

This has become so monotonous that Ghanaians are beginning to wonder whether the president is actually serious and interested in fighting corruption as he claims, or it's just another crocodile's tears to deceive Ghanaians into believing that he is making an effort, while the government and its cronies amass billions of dollars at the expense of this struggling HIPC nation.
Why should Ghanaians hire a president that can't even introduce an electronic system successfully into the public sector to save us from criminals masquerading as civil servants? Mr. Mahama must be seen to be fighting corruption with all his might rather than go on lamenting helplessly like the rest of us who hired him to do the job.

If by 2016 Mahama would have served his 2nd term in office as president of Ghana," ...He reminded Ghanaians of the provision in the Constitution that mandates an elected president to rule for a maximum of eight years (two terms), and said in 2016 Mahama might have served his two terms ....", then lawyer Apaw must not be crying on social media. He should proceed to court, to prevent Mahama from running for 2016 presidential election. A whole lawyer who cannot read and interpret an article in his own country's constitution.
