Gold has been sold out and we have only 1.75% share of Anglo Gold Ashanti. The only commodity we own now is the cocoa/sheinut. Cocoa comes from the South and Sheinut from the north. What many Ghanaians don't know is that, going forward, this country is going to survive on the untapped resources of the north in the near future. We have purest of gold that has not been tapped yet. The largest iron ore deposit in Africa in Sheni mountains in the Eastern corridor of the North. The largest clinka deposits and un utilized large track farm lands across the regions.

After reading this short piece, I expect you to come back and tell me what truth is contained in what Osafo Marfo said.

I am not impressed a bit about this response in the name of the NDC party. They must go beyond these simple platitudes and show by providing statistical data WHY Osafo Marfo is wrong and is just a diabolical and bigoted ethnocentric politician, just as many of the members of the NPP.

First, those claims have been aired by the leaders, members and supporters of the NPP in one form or the other over the decades. It'd be dishonest on the of anybody, unless the person is a victim of sheer ignorance, to claim that he or she is not aware of such claims in the past. I recollect one extended argument we of the Moral Brigade had on SIL with Dr Kofi Ellison and his equally ignorant and bigoted supporters over whether cocoa is produced in the VR too. They insisted that that was not the case, and we from the VR were just parasites and free loaders on them "these Akans".

And I recollect I had quoted, in rebutting these claims, on more than one occasion from the compact 1991 Facts and Figures released by the Min. of Agric titled Agriculture in Ghana to show how an insignificant contribution cocoa makes to total agric GDP compared to other crops, as against its contribution to export earnings where it is very significant. Agric in total then contributed abt 50% of GDP and 60% of export earnings. So by 1991, roots and tubers, comprising cassava, yam and cocoyam, topped the list with 46% of agric GDP, with yam said to be experiencing the greatest growth in area planted. "Puna" yam is of course the king of yams in the overseas market and no doubt has the potential to be a big foreign exchange earner for Ghana and poverty ending product in the North if the successive govts have any clues how to do it.

Cocoa, the second single contributor contributesd a mere 13% compared to the 9% contributed by plantain.

Forestry the 3rd largest contributed 11%. Cereals (maize, rice, sorghum and millet) contributed 7%. Livestock 5%. Fisheries 4%. Fruits and vegetables 3%. Others 2%.

So there we have it! The question is who are producing those products, not only where they are being produced. Polly Hill has mapped this for cocoa in her seminal classic The Migrant Cocoa Farmers of Southern Ghana and others on the agric sector in Ghana, specifically fishing, and livestock in the southern VR in the Bator area in Tongu. I bet she was surprised to discover that most of the cattle then was owned by Anlos, not the people of Tongu.

We can do this for the mining sector too, just as the other sectors, such as services, contributing the other now over 50% of GDP. That's the kind of analysis we expect "these Akans" to produce to back their claims and the the ruling NDC to produce to debunk them. Anything short of that is trifle and the "dangerous" claims shall continue to be made by "these Akans."

Ewes can continue to dream but the truth is they can never compare themselves to Ashanti's. How many Ghanaian entrepreneurs are voltarians? Just few but for Ashanti uncountable,talk of enterprises such as glico, despite group of companies, star assurance company,adom fm , happy FM, joy FM, city FM, Accra mall,tropical cables and the list goes on and on and also other enterprises owned by akans who are not ashantis such as UT bank, unibank, Data bank etc etc. And the most funny thing is when these enterprises are set up by akans they employ people from all tribes including ewes but can same be said for ewes no. They set up their few businesses and they employ only ewes. The most annoying thing is they carry this stupidity of favouritism and nepotism to government institutions which shouldn't be so. Because of these act they think they are the sharpest and brilliant in Ghana. Stop the favouritism and nepotism and you will see where you belong.

This only happens when NDC comes to steal power from the people. The originator of the party, Rawlings, stole power and put his Ewes in the helm of affairs. These Ewes have been power-drunk from the word go. Ruling Ghana for 21 years or so, he set the country 25 years back. I remember a time when most Akans seeking entry to various universities had to ewelise their names. How can a minority with no resource so much overshadow the majority. If the minority don't stop this it wouldn't augur well for the country. Are the minority better qualified than the majority in administering the country? If Osarfo Marfo cares to know, when it comes to the sharing of the national cake, the Fantes are more at home with the NDC than his NPP. The NDC always uses tribal sentiments to win
elections but yet turn round to tag NPP as
"ethnocentrics."

THE HARD TRUTH: Ashantis (Asantes) are the
most hated tribe in Ghana. Tag anything Ashanti
(Asante) and you will be guaranteed that it will not
see the support of most of the other tribes.
Ashantis are tagged as tribal people but Kumasi is
the only city in Ghana you will find sub-towns
(suburbs) of all the major ethnic groups in Ghana.
At the heart of Kumasi, you will find Anloga
(predominantly Ewes); Asawase, Aboabo, Alabar
(predominantly Hausa and Northerners); Agric-
Nzema (Nzema descendants), etc. These people
have been living in harmony with Ashantis for
decades but yet hate on Ashantis which
unfortunately transcends to NPP for no apparent
reason has always been a major strategy of the
NDC.

Ashantis are the only people who did not dispute
the renaming of 'their' Sports Stadium. Even
though Baba Yara was of a Northern descent, they
gladly welcomed the name. "We never say we are
going to Kumasi Sports Stadium, we proudly say
we are going to BABA YARA. "

Ashantis have kept quiet for long. At times people
who are not Ashantis make unkind tribal
comments, because they made those remarks in
good twi language, Ashantis take the fall even
though the speaker might not be an Ashanti.

NDC, Keep on turning tribes against each other for
political gains, you will wake up one day to find
Ghana burnt down to ashes.

Let's not forget also that almost all the natural resources come from these Akan regions. This is a fact, but it is an open secret. It is time our people, the Akans must know and understand that they are being cheated. This will help the people to cast their vote well. Besides, the managers of these resources are ignorant about their responsibility. The irony of the matter is that they, NDC is incapable of managing the nation. Is John Mahama not acting out what he said during the campaign?

If Mahama could get away with this, why not Osafo Marfo? Look at the condition of roads in the Eastern Region. Has the President been there to promise anything? Yet he was in the North recently promising good roads, electricity and water. Surely, come 2016 and he would be there pointing out that he had redeemed his promises by his appointments.

Who have been implicated in all the corruption currently trailing and where are they from? Is it an exageration to say that we are being fleeced by people with no resources?

Akans do not vote tactically. Else, the NDC would never come to power. That shows that Akans are not as tribalistic as some would want other Ghanaians to think.

Most regions, if not All regions are productive (albeit most of them , including the Eastern Region) put "a lot on the table" as it were. For that reason, the distribution of Development, Scholarships, jobs should be Equitable.
This inequality can be addressed through Ethnic Monitoring throughout the Civil Service and in the allocation of jobs.
