This is very worrying and apparently has been the case for a long time. I recently read an opinion piece from a chap who is based in the UK, but who was a student at the time when I was studying in Legon. He was in Cape Coast and stated how a certain politician (now deceased) 'sponsored' them in their student politics!!!

It has kep me thinking ever since, that how many of our student politicians at the time were being used by politicians and political parties outside of campus? No wonder the agitation with government at the time was so skewed and some of us put our lives at some risk, believing we were all fighting a just cause whilst others had their own personal and political agendas!!!

Although I do not believe I was made a fool of (because of my own convictions) the mere thought that i might have been inadvertently helping other people propagate their own selfish agendas as student leaders makes mu quite unhappy.

The student 'electorate' in my view should scrutinize their aspirant leaders closely and let them declare any conflicts of interest as a basis for their eligibility for elections. If they are found to have been sponsored by politicians or political parties, they should be disqualified!!

It will come to a time when all our well respected statesmen will be criminalised in their old age when they must be resting and enjoying their toil.

This lady is a shame to her family and Ghana. Police must interrogate and charge her with a criminal offense, and proceed to court. She must also be dismissed from the university immediately.
