You should be probed and jailed not only for malfeasance, but also for misfeasance.

Even allowing for shipping, handling and duties (and why should Government charge itself duties?), there's at least triplication of charges here.

The amount of money spent on thse cars could build additional halls to some of our universities yet they would not do it. They have all possibly benefited from the existing dellapidated structures on the campuses. They areheartless and ruthless people. Tehy don't care if the whole country perish and they survive.
The poor reason that he is putting out for keeping the car is best described as idiosity. How can he return the car just this monday and claim that the car was returned asif this was done long time ago? When he considered keeping the car for the fear that he may loose its use to somebody else, was he the one who decided what car to use in what ministry?
He is a thief and should be treated as such. He wanted to keep the car so that he may benefit it as a token end of service gift. He planned it and design how to be close to it at the time of change of government or something like that. He should be taken on seriously. Thieves!!!

While some of us are against the purchase of these luxury cars some of you are not making any sense in responding to this issue,ministers need cars to operate but not that expensive cars,Lexus LX 570 is not a car that should be used to inspect projects.

Having said that,where are the remaining cars especially the remaining Lexus LX 570s who is using them now?

I think government should sell these Lexus LX 570s but not to themselves but to the public at current market price,we can't buy over $90,000 dollar cars for our officials,cars that may be more expensive than what the president and top officials are using,very bad for a poor country like Ghana.

In 2008 when fuel was almost $4.00, it was reported that the AG of the state of Connecticut the then AG Blumenthal now a US senator, had started using his smaller vehicle Honda civic to make the almost 2 hour in and out ride to work.
The report did not say the state of Conn changed it for him.
I think your talking of African nations who shamelessly do this but not the US as I know it cause even Obama had his own vehicle as a state senator and latter a US senator, and while in DC, rented his own one bed room apartment and continued paying mortgage together with Michelle for their Chicago house.
The entitlement mentality woven to our education culture of finish school and government will give you job had made us so lazy and had bred a culture of corruption. If the judges have been made to pay for their own houses, they'd be quick to jail others who want to game the system at the expense of others even if it is one of them. How does this compare with the special arrangements to sell to Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey for permanent personal ownership a Government Bungalow, while the Government was lamenting over inadequate Accommodation for Officials due to shortage of Houses?

This is not a case of equalization but a serious invitation to assess the circumstances in each and every case on merit.

Ideally, we would all expect that materials purchased for a particular purpose within an outfit, would just stay there and be used solely for that purpose.

But, practically, when one side of the Government is lacking in resources that are necessary to complement the activities of other sections of the Government, there is nothing inherently wrong or criminal in formally arranging to lend the other less resourced sections logistics and other materials to bring it at par with the other sections, so long as such borrowing does not hamper the performance of the better resourced section.

Any competent Government would have legal provisions in place to allow such inter-Ministerial flexibility to enhance its overall performance. Even in times of emergency, the absence of specific provisions must not hinder any such ad-hoc transfer of resources.

It is only when the object of such transfer of resources from one section of the Government to another is to provide personal luxury to certain personnel of the recipient sections that we must seriously be concerned about and stop it.

That is all I wanted to point out. Accountability does not preclude necessary sharing of resources for greater outcomes among departments or Ministries of a Government in time of abject need. That is not flippant rationalization but objective and exhaustive approach to investigating charges of corruption without risking legal suits from innocent offended entities.

Surely, if Oteng-Adjei illicitly kept the car/s for his personal comfort while there was no need for such borrowing from the Energy Ministry, he must be reprimanded for it. But we ought to be careful not to pursue the Politics of equalization which is what K. T. Hammond has been embarking upon recently with his numerous accusations against the Government without documentary evidence to support the charges. He sounds more like trying to find some dirt on the Government to equalize his own less-than-satisfactory exoneration from the Drill Ship sale saga.

We should not at all be partisan in seeking Justice.

Im extremely sad to hear this statement from the NDC thus: "The NDC government through a statement issued last week had distanced itself from the Scandal , blaming the opposition NPP for the expenditure , saying it was the NPP that initiated the move ....in 2006 and 2007, and approved by parliament in 2008" . This is not the NDC I know and belonged to . And Im very sad today , as I was when the late Pres. Mills and his Transition Team let the Former pres. Kuffuor made fool of them to sign that treacherous Retirement Benefits for "so-called" former presidents . Why didnt the NDC then use their Intellet to question , Why didnt the NPP/Kuffour bring this RETIREMENT BENEFITS issue before the Election , but after they have lost the election ? . Again , Why didnt NDC/MILLS administration prosecute the NPP/KUFFOUR gorvernment officials for Financial Loss to the state , at least with regards to the GHANA AT 50 Cars ? . Why ? . The importation of Luxury Cars for the Ghana at 50 Cellebration , which did not arrive until after the celebration , thereby "making Ghana lose Huge sums of money to rent New luxury cars for the month" , and the way and manner , and the Prices those "Late-commer-Cars" were disposed of , calls for "Financial Loss to the State" charges. And for the NDC/MILLS , not hold the KUFFOUR/NPP accountable, it beats my immagination . If NDC/MAHAMA , is still not ready to bring out Luxurious Living under the NPP/KUFFOUR government , but continue to follow that Lavish style , then May current NPP continue to bash them , until they Stop importing the Luxury Cars , which Kuffour/NPP started .
