  It can however lower self-esteem, raise levels of paranoia, bring forward neuroses and certain phobias and even lead to the acute onset of hitherto latent psychoses in susceptible persons. It can lead to wasting a lot of time and missing a lot of opportunities.
  I also wouldn't have done any intellectually challenging work, where quick responsible decisions, fast reflexes or long uninterrupted concentration are required, under the influence.
  
  But all of that is applicable to other drugs as well. Or rather to a much higher degree with most other drugs.
  
  You may have noticed I mentioned having smoked heavily, but only "at times", and that's quite distinctive from other drugs, because "wee" is normally very easy to quit anytime. - -Quite contrarily to especially alcohol-. Alcohol is also much more harmful to the body and especially it is a total brain-killer, once one has become addicted.
  
  I have known many alcoholics and many wee-smokers and users of all kinds of drugs, and all addictions can bring out many kinds of mental, psychological and bodily disturbances, but I've never seen a "wee"-smoker who has been completely devastated solely by that drug like I have experienced with many, many alcoholics and heroine- and cocaine- and amphetamine-abusers and resulting from hallucinogenic drugs.

  I know of many that went MAD i.e. clinically insane from smoking wee in Ghana....

  Well yes, I believe what you describe can be possible in some cases (with a latent predisposition to psychosis), but I'm a man who also always tries to assess any situation completely, i.e. to consider the other side as well,as to keep a balanced, truthful view.
  
  As to IQ-damage, the effects of old-fashioned marijuana (not the more recent mega-high potency varieties having appeared abroad) are relatively negligible COMPARED to the usually "legal" drug alcohol. There's IMO no rational basis to allow alcohol and tobacco, but to criminalize marijuana.
  
  I personally don't know anyone having become clinically insane from marijuana, but plenty alcohol-addicts whose lives have been reduced to resembling a "vegetative" state. It is even allowed to sell alcohol mixed with sweet drinks (e.g. "Smirnoff"), so that teenagers can overcome their revulsion to taste alcohol/ not discern the taste of the alcohol in the drink. For example, my wife did not even know "Smirnoff" contained alcohol when she was regularly offered some at Ghanaian festivities, until I told her (at age ~40!) - that is normal for Ghana and I find it perfidious from the manufacturers as well as the Governments allowing such.
  
  My own dear father has unfortunately been addicted to alcohol and has died early from hepatic cirrhosis (alcohol-borne), though he didn't drink all-too-heavily, as have many in my vicinity.
  
  I would also suggest to consider that most wee-abusers in Ghana whom I know abuse alcohol and many other substances at the same time.
  
  Finally, for this post, I have a strong and logically founded suspicion that the cannabis-plant has been demonized because of its unique agro-economic properties that could help economies like the Ghanaian a lot, and solve many problems world-wide, because it is a plant of a myriad of considerable uses that does usually not need any pesticides at all and nearly no fertiliser - its seeds are mega-nutritious and tasty with an exceedingly high yield both of high quality oil and proteins, and its fibres and the derived products are of such quality that they could replace a lot of fossile-carbon-based artificial products, making countries more independent.

  I suppose the government in Ghana can go ahead and exploit any properties it deems fit as far as it does not export it out of the borders of Ghana..the west would not mind...
  
  I rather suspect, there needs to be more research done on the plant, its properties and effects. This research is not being done because the private research industry does not want to touch it because of the related controversies and risk. They are careful where they place their money..case in point, the ebola virus..If it is some thing with high risk and uncertain profit, it is not worth the opportunity cost to them. So the research so far available have conclusions that span the spectrum....
