If I buy something form Amazon for $50 (which is easily verifiable btw) but when the item arrives in Ghana the customs offer tells me that it should rather cost $250 so I should pay duties on $250 instead of $50, what would you expect me to do the next time I ship something go Ghana? I will under value the invoice knowing very well that the customs officer will jack the price up. Don't blame the customer, blame a bad and a subjective system. The government knows about these things but does nothing about them. Till the govt fix these issues of bad officers and charge a fair rate the country will continue to lose money. Please stop the talking because what you are saying is not new. Even Mahama is aware of it. What did Mills do about it? Come up with real solutions. I don't think you have run or owned a business before. Then you will understand the difficulty.

Now then, the leading ports of Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Rotterdam and of course Dubai, boast of a little over such revenue annually, but not our combined ports of Tema and Takoradi.

Such sensational journalism does a great disservice to our public discourse.

Having said that, I agree with the general sentiment expressed in the report here about the leakages in our revenue collecting agencies. Corruption is a national security threat, if you ask me. Until we, as a people, see this canker for what it is, we should forget about any meaningful national development.

In Europe no any agent. The custom and excise tax your goods and then call you on phone to come and pay and collect. You don't waste weeks chasing your goods. My experience tells me when you do a genuine tax you save more than going through these curruot custom officers. HOW COME WE END UP IN THIS SHIT ?

We do not need rocket science to do this. We do not even need any high charging consultants. Give it to ordinary educated people like me and with dedicated high school leavers, it will be done. the normal public sector remuneration is what is needed. Even the staff who will be asked to step aside by going on leave can be paid from the revenue. There would be no dependance on the consolidated(Single Spine Salary Structure). There is GOLD pure GOLD all over the motherland. It only goes into huge pockets of some few.
