What happened was that when Ghana went for the IMF loan, its name being on countries under sanctions by AFB posed a major problem and was made clear to the government that Ghana being under AFB sanctions can derail its getting IMF bailout so Ghana went and settled its debt obligations and came into terms with the Bank to issue a statement that Ghana was mistakenly put under sanctions to help it get IMF bailout.

It is just a cover up to say it was a mistake, it was not and Bawumiah reported what he saw concernig Ghana. Ghana might have been embarrassed that they were on the list and might have borrowed (as usual) to make the payment and after the payment was made when did it reflect, so Bawumiah is 100% correct in reporting that Ghana was blacklisted.

I do not mind if it was a political presentation or rally but an academic exercise, well, my boss Dr Bawumia, the person I admire so much got it wrong. As in academia one month is very long to have corrected the error if not for a political gimmick. I respect the NPP to be full of intellectuals who have got so many things right about the Ghanaian economy but this time my honourable doctor is wrong hands down! In this internet age, I have to revise my notes almost every forty-eight hours so as not to be challenged by my students because some of them are much ahead of what is happening around the world. Having said the above, we cannot rubbish the whole presentation as useless. Some lines he touched can be useful and should not be ignored.

After Beans and other came here somersaulting and doing verbal flic-flacs, praising the improvement, I'd have expected at leaset some marginal improvements.

But alas , this being Ghana, things seem to be rather getting worse.It has been quite some time now , that I last had to buy water from a tanker and if there hadn't have been some rain yesterday, my people woud have to take their bath in the sea or with pure water.

Meanwhile dumsor is continuing unabated and still one can see a lot of street lamps which are shining 24/7 - if the lights happen to be on for 24 hours, that is !

He can either concentrate on his political ambitions or protect jealously his academic credentials, he can't mix both and expect to come out in both ventures with flying colors.

With NPP now in opposition and cash strapped, instead of organizing their usual "mammoth" relays, they are now going to use such subtle ways such as conducting their political propaganda from sympathetic campuses, pulpits etc. as well as organizing near daily Press conferences.

Bawumia knew very well that most of the information he put out there were not the real facts but knowing the political gains he would garner, he just thought he could sacrifice his academic pedigree.

Yes, the AfDB publication was wrong. Did that make our economy healthy and no long need an IMF bailout? Is that going to make Moody, Fitch and Standard and Poor give Ghana a clean sheet of health! Bawumia identified myriads of problem with the economy that the real Ghanaian agrees with, they should accept it a take his suggestions serious and stop the fruitless attempt to water down the importance of this lecture. When it comes to economics, the man is an authority, it isn't what the NDC says that defines who Dr. Bawumia is. Is it not interesting! Ghana borrowed over 60 billion dollars and our economy was in tatters, the IMF is bringing in $900 million to help resolve the ills of the economy. The truth is that our leaders have admitted their inability to manage the economy and have gone to IMF to come takeover and manage the country. Is this an independent country!

Much as many of us are not happy with the state of Ghana's economy, I have consistently argued against Dr Bawumia's selective use of figures, statistics, biased analyses and 'dodgy' conclusions about the state of our economy.

I have often argued that people like Bawumia in the way they go about talking down our economy actually do more harm to Ghana to the outside world. It is pleasing to see that his lies and exaggerations have been rightly identified and condemned by a credible international institution. This is not just a disgrace to him, but to all those who follow him, some of whom have characterised some of us as "ignoramus" simply because we sought to expose the ridiculous analyses of this man.

I really don't care which party runs Ghana's affairs. All i care about is that our leaders and politicians are truthful, including their analysis of the situation in the country, and that they are not blinded by political and party cheap tactics, just because they want to win power.

I have always questioned, and will continue to question Dr Bawumia's intellectual credentials. I believe he is made to think he is better than he really is, and frankly I do not rate him as highly as others do as an economist.

Pleasing news indeed, and I hope he will be more careful from now on, and that others (including his sycophantic followers) will be more critical of his utterances and statements from now on.

Ghana went to IMF for $3B, but was handed down $960M for 3 years. This in itself is an INSULT. We do not need to even listen to Bawumia to know that we are in trouble. We do not have power for industries and individuals, companies are closing down and workers asked to go home. Oil which NDC planned siphoning into their pockets is going down from $110 to $20. NDC has borrowed $6.6B at interest rate of 25%. How do we pay for this and get the people some relief? Confronting Bawumia and insulting him makes NDC weak, useless and UNINTELLIGENT incompetent bunch. The cedi is sliding again, things are bad and it is not getting better but rather worse by the day. Wasting time to prove Bawumia wrong is the most STUPID and FOOLISH thing to do. RATHER improve the economy and Bawumia will have no arguments. That a politician will be using AfDBs platform to perpetuate falsehood against ANY member nation.
The whole institution cannot be trusted and this matter must be pursued and remedies made to protect future galavanting by politicians.
This is a worst, if not more than Watergate scandal.
The NPP is doomed and need to reconstitute starting from its name. Else Ghanaians cannot forgive them anytime.
Just like the NPP's OSAFO MAAFO oversaw barber shop China loan, and created a faux newspaper online to pubkish he was the best finance minister in Africa an got fired.
