I have been monitoring his arguments on issues on so many platforms and it is so shocking that Mr. Pratt that we used to know could irresponsibly behave the way he did, especially on this issue at stake. Dr. Bawumia was given a topic to discuss of which he exhaustively did Justice to that effect and strongly supported his claims with facts and figures which could be easily verified. So for Pratt to liken Bawumia's intellectual discourse to the common talks on the market place is unintelligent and very insulting. How could Pratt expect Bawumia to have talked about water, dumsor etc when the topic of the lecture was " The IMF Bail Out: Will The Anchor Hold?". Anyways, I never expected Pratt to have said something sensible because it was this same opportunist who said Bawumia "talks like a serial caller" on that same infamous platform, Radio Gold, sometime last year.

As far as I am concerned, there is not much difference between the two. Just that we have never seriously tried the hair salon but we have been misled for over 50 years into thinking that the IMF would be of greater assistance than the hair salon option. However, can anybody show any palpable evidence in the public domain that the IMF has served our needs well?

Mr. Pratt made two important observations about Bawumia's speech and they were all true. Those who have followed the issues with Ghana's economy would definitely agree with Mr. Pratt that nothing that Bawumia said was new. Bawumia was recycling what was already in the public domain. In fact, what Bawumia conveniently left out in his much publicized lecture is his own redenomination of the cedi and pegging it to the US$ that have wreaked havoc to the cedi since 2007. The cedi has not recovered since the redenomination exercise ingineered and orchestrated by Bawumia when he was the Deputy Governor at the central bank under Kufuor administration. What we want to know is, how much foreign exchange reserve did Bawumia and Wampah spend trying to defend the cedi soon after the redenomination in 2007? This is a question that needs to be asked, because this policy gaffe has cost the country so much money and heartache it is not funny. The economy (the cedi) is still reeling from this singular act perpetrated by Bawumia and his cohorts.

Second, Mr. Pratt knowing how the NPP have politicized Bawumia's lecture is reminding the NPP folks that it is better for the country to go to the IMF to borrow money rather than go to a hairdressing salon for a loan. This is exactly what NPP did during their time in office. They went to a hairdressing salon thinking it was a lending institution; oh, how soon we forget!

I do not believe for a moment that Mr. Pratt supports going to IMF to borrow funds to fix the economy; his comments reflects the mindless partisan politics that is played daily in the country - by both NPP and NDC.

Let me clear my position before I sink my teeth into the meat. I do not belong to any political party in the country, therefore I am free to speak my mind. Many Ghanaians have lost their freewill to think due to stupid and senseless partisan politics. Join me by ridding yourself from this destructive partisan politics and you will make Ghana proud. You will see clearly and think clearly, and our country will be better off.

First of all, there is nothing Kufuor and his NPP did between 2001 and 2009 that moved the country to lower middle income status. Those who follow geo-political economics like I do, would tell you that Kufuor had no business taking Ghana to HIPC in 2001. You can read articles written by prominent Ghanaians such as Mr. Akoto Ampaw and other renowned economist who felt that Ghana's HIPC claims were bogus and politically inspired. Sure, Ghana's debts were forgiven through HIPC, but then the country was also constrained by IMF/World Bank conditionalities that tied Kufuor's hands from implementing pertinent economic policies that would have transformed the economy.

Here are three main reasons why HIPC was unnecessary and a useless political goose chase. 1) The US/Iraq war pumped billions if not trillions of US dollars into the world economy in 2001. Money was everywhere as war machinery was being produced for the war. The two heavily populated countries in the world, China and India sub-continent, were awashed with American dollars and developed a huge appetite for Gold and Cocoa, which are the two main Ghana exports. Gold prices rose in 2001 from a mere $250 per ounce to almost $1,800, unprecedented in our history. Ghana's rich flavored cocoa was the darling of the world market, as prices rose from $500 per tonne to $2,500 per tonne, also unprecedented in our history. Ghana was floating in foreign exchange reserves during this gold and cocoa prices phenomenon. 2) After the 2000 elections that resulted in a smooth transfer of power from NDC to NPP without war as was in the case of Kenya and other African countries, the international community, especially the western nations took notice and wanted to show its support for our fledgling democracy. Foreign aid poured in from Britain, US, the Scandinavian countries and France. All this money poured in as a goodwill gesture to serve notice to the dictatorial other African countries. As one diplomat remarked, "Ghana's new found democracy is the darling of the world". Kufuor's NPP government was floating in cash - 1) through HIPC almost all of Ghana's debts were forgiven, 2) for the first time in our history, our country had development partners who were willing to dole out any amount of money for our development. For the first time in our history, our country was able to raise Eurobonds in North American and European markets through the help of IMF and World Bank.

Time will not permit me to delve into the fortunes and opportunities we lost during Kufuor's administration. My question is: what did Kufuor do with all the money that flowed in through higher gold and cocoa prices, and money from our development partners? There was virtually no debt to pay because of HIPC. He had excess money to spend extravagantly on Ghana@50 - the initial estimate was $20M and then it ballooned to $75M. The Jubilee House was initially estimated at $30M; by the time it was partly finished, the cost has ballooned to $120M and still counting. Can't you see what is going on, my friend. Do you know how much foreign exchange reserves Bawumia sunk into the redenomination fiasco to defend the spiraling cedi? Open your eyes my friend and stop the stupid partisan politics. These fools in government are sucking the country dry. Think about this question: who is funding JA Kufuor's Foundation, and what reason would you attribute to Kufuor having a Foundation? We know Bill and Melinda Gates are funding their own foundation, but my question to you is that who is funding JA Kufuor's Foundation? Go to Kufuor's Foundation website and check it out with Bill and Melinda Gates' Foundation website and see the difference.

One thing I have noticed about Ghanaians, when somebody speaks the truth and they can't stand the heat then they forget what the person has said in question and then resort to insults. Having read some few comments here, nobody has proven his point wrong, only insults. Even some linking a wee smoker Kweku Baaku illiterate to him as literate.

The hard truth from Pratt is simple: Bawumia should have known that the bailout is a short term help to put the economy on the right path for now, the government has implemented the SSSS and embarked on many infrastructure activities like roads, markets, airports and expenditures to deal with the problem of electricity, therefore an urgent money is needed from somewhere. So instead of Bawumia running at bush and repeating what some ordinary NPP people say, he should have linked the bailout to the current expenditure of the government like providing pipe borne water to every citizen in any corner of the country, SSSS, infrastructure and dumsor.

All these GDP figures being quoted by the so called economic gurus do not mean anything if they do not translate into economic growth. To the layman on the street, what is economic growth? If you cut all those unnecessary economic jargons, economic growth is simply, HOW MUCH MONEY YOU HAVE IN YOUR POCKET" at the end of the day.

Anyone visiting Ghana for the first time will soon realize that most Ghanaians have a lot of money in their pockets otherwise they will not be living in mansions, drive 2 or 3 cars and have extra money to even throw extravagant parties and funerals.

In short, these numbers do not mean anything if people's living standards have improved from low income levels to low middle income levels.

Give the Government some time to implement their infrastructure projects and sooner, rather than later the "dumsors" will all become a thing of the past.

In fact it is about time we all Ghanaians watch what comes out of our mouths towards our President, members of his cabinet and our leaders in parliament.

As we keep insulting and use negative words on the President especially, (the leader of our country), we bring curse upon all Ghanaians. Why? Because if the head is cursed, then all below will be cursed also.

I therefore challenge all Ghanaians, that from this day onward. please turn around and give thanks to God for even all the dumsors we are going through, after all in all things (good or bad), we should give thanks o God. Believe me, there will be some lessons learnt after we finish going through it. Despite all the Dumsor, life still goes on.

Let us therefore change what we say from now on, and everyday, instead of condemning and insulting the President, we take Just 1 minute a day of our time and PRAY FOR HIM THAT GOD WILL GIVE HIM AND THE OTHER LEADERS THE WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE NEEDED TO MANAGE THE AFFAIRS OF THE COUNTRY.

If we do that, I can assure you that within a matter of weeks, you will all begin to see GOD'S MIRACLES AT WORK FOR OUR COUNTRY. Ghana is the trend setter for Black people around the world and we must succeed to continue to be the light of the world for the Black race.

LET US THEREFORE DEVELOP A NEW HABIT AND EVERY DAY PRAY FOR OUR PRESIDENT AND OUR LEADERS SO THAT IT SHALL BE WELL WITH ALL OF US GHANAIANS.

I start my prayer now.

Dear God, please from this day onwards, Give President Mahama and all the leaders of Ghana the Spirit of your Wisdom, Your Power, Your Love and Your Sound Mind so they will manage the economy of Ghana in accordance with Your Will. Let whatever they do for the country Prosper from this day and forever more. I thank you in Jesus Name.

Amen.

Now that Bawumia is again running with Akufo-Addo on the NPP ticket, Bawumia never hesitates to use his pinksheet numbers to to discredit the current administration's pursuit of an IMF loan. Bawumia did not only criticise Ghana for going to the IMF. Bawumia offered constructive suggestions because we criticise to reconstruct.

Dr.Bawumia did not say going to the IMF is wrong. What he implied was that considering the state of the economy inherited by this NDC government and the inflow of revenue during the government's tenure if things have been properly managed there would be no need for Ghana to run to the IMF for financial assistance.
As a respected journalist, I will expect you to seriously examine the substance of what people say before criticising them.As a Ghanaian, you are free to associate with any political divide;yours of which is no secret but do not twist the facts.
For all these while some Ghanaians suspect you of being in bed with this government;an assertion which you seem not to accept.However, recently you nearly lost your life when the presidential plane nearly caught fire.It seems that incident smoked you out of your rat hole.
Ghanaians are sophisticated and therefore discerns well.Please Kwasi stop fooling around, be bold and take a position in Ghanaian politics, after all it is your right.
