That apart, he was appointed as the Chief Executive of Nigeria's Petroleum Trust Fund much later, long after he had left office as Head of Staye and he did not fill his Bank Accounts. Can we say that about our leaders in Ghana. PTF was a fund created to use a special tax on petroleum products for infrastructural development. Of course, you know Nigeria as a major oil producer. The PTF had plenty of cash to play with and Ghanaman would have done the worst with that opportunity like our politicians have been doing always, like NPP and NDC.

Failure to declare or false declaration leads to disqualification and imprisonment.The people must wage WAR against corruption.

Not only that but the IRS must also be re-constituted to be a truly independent state institution that's not tied to the apron strings of the government to collect taxes aggresively and holistically from citizens with taxable income. We can study the US tax system and how their IRS operates because it's working well for them whilst ours is an albatross. Tax evasion is a serious crime in the US and should be in Ghana too.
We don't need to re-invent the wheel to make our systems, government and its agencies work for our benefit. There are very successful operational systems around the world that we can import and copy from. All we need is the political will of the rulers and the voice of the people.
The passage of the freedom of information bill into law is long overdue and the collective voice of the people must be employed to goad the recalcitrant and foot dragging politicians to hasten its passage into law. It's a very good law and we the people must understand why the politicians don't want it to see the light of day. In much the same way we can also hasten and complete work on the citizen identification project. This is too important to be toyed with because there's very little we can achieve without an efficacious citizen identification policy.
The process of assets declaration would be enhanced if we do the to-do list above and politicians who break the law will spend time in jail and banned for life from politics.

For me assets declaration means not just the minimum in one's bank account and the list of movable and immovable properties but the maximum in the bank account and approximate values of the properties. What about if it turns out that Buhari's actual bank balance as at now is 100 million Niara? What about if after becoming President state resources are used to improve his houses and their values appreciates considerably?

It's the beginning but it could be better and hope that in future others will improve on what Buhari has done.

Some African leadership or authorities should desist from managing the affairs of their Countries as if in their private homes.For example,in our part of the world(Ghana),it's likely for a leadership as guest of honour at a Festival to the Chief,Elders and people of a Town,to promise to establish a University to appease the people of a sittings gov't project in that Region, from nowhere,or not a well thought through National Education plans on paper with project date ; but as.a political ploys and propaganda.for future electoral Votes, irrespective of the fact that such gov't project should be a well budgeted national plan in the pipeline for not less than 5-8 yrs or more to be in fruition.
The end results of those propagandists project promises and its early implementations without budgeted for,is a factor to the general financial and economic necessities/constraints on the Country.Anyway.
So, please declare your assets as prescribed by the laws of the land, and don't look for someone from another Country to be an example to uphold (demonstrate to you).Then, why do we have that law.

I do admire the President-elect, Buhari but for God's sake, we Ghanaians do not know much about this man's past. Nigerians will be in a position to tell his past. I watched a clip of supporters in jubilation around his childhood home which still looks like a typical Ghanaian village structures built in the '50s or way back in the '40s.

With this in mind and talking with a Nigeria friend of mine and expressing my thought that the President-elect having tasted power before and couldn't rehabilitate his childhood home tells that the man may have a good governance for Nigerians. The Nigerian friend said, Buhari is a thief and amassed wealth but chose not to expose it at where he comes from but rather bought expensive buildings in those affluent cities in Nigeria.

However, I was able to convince this Nigerian friend of mine that, at his age of 72, the President-elect don't need wealth for anything again and I hope whatever mistakes he made in his military government era, he may come and amend those mistakes and set up good governance to eradicate Nigerian's corruption phenomenon. I wish the President-elect good health and stand firmly to put Nigeria on the right path for the betterment of the whole Africa.

Assets declaration law is not new in Ghana. Read the 1992 constitution and the GII Bill as elaborated by Dr.
Azeem. This bill has been swept under the carpet. Lawlessness is the order of the day in Ghana.
