Ghanaweb as reported on December 4, 2012 under the heading "Ghana solar energy plant set to be Africa's largest". Readers can find it for themselves on Ghanaweb Archived News of December 4, 2012. I hope this Blue Energy company is not taking Ghanaians for a ride.

"For example, on December 4, 2012, just days before the presidential and parliament elections in Ghana, BBC and a UK national newspaper, the Guardian reported that a British company, Blue Energy was to built Africa’s largest solar energy in the Western Region of Ghana with the headlines, “Ghana solar energy plant set to be Africa's largest” and “Africa's largest solar power plant to be built in Ghana” respectively. Ghanaweb also reported the story that same day. According to the reports the 155MW plant worth $400 million would have created 200 permanent and 500 temporary jobs, began power production from 2014 and be completed by October 2015. What happened and was the British company used by the government as part of propaganda tool for electoral gain?"

I dont blamed some of our folks because we dont read and research and some of us also dont travel to see whats going on outside Ghana.
The most annoying thing is that welcome inscription at Kotoka Airport that reads'Welcome to Ghana the gateway to Africa'.So visitors at night only move a few metres from the airport only to face dumsor signalling that MAMA AFRICA is still in the dark ages.

The site enjoys good solar radiation, has excellent access to the major road system and is within easy reach of a deep water port at Takoradi. The plant will be directly connected to the 161kV West African Power Pool transmission line, which runs alongside the site, linking Ghana to Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin and Nigeria, and has available capacity for its load.
Installation of more than 630,000 solar PV modules will begin by the end of 2013 and electricity generation will start early the next year, with sections coming on stream as they are completed. The project is due to reach full capacity by October 2015.

The Nzema project is located in the Western Region of Ghana, West Africa. Once complete the site will have an installed capacity of 155MWp, currently making this the 4th largest solar farm in the world in 2013. The project is fully permitted with a signed PPA and construction is currently due to commence in early 2014 with full operation achieved by 2015. The plant covers an area of 451 acres comprising over 630,000 individual panels and will generate approximately 240,000MWh per annum.
