REMEMBER, RAWLINGS SAID 60% OF THEM ARE THIEVES, VICTORIA HAMMAH SAID SHE WILL BANK MILLIONS OF DOLLARS BEFORE SHE LEAVES POLITICS and KWABENA ADJEI SAID NDC SHOULD NOT BLAME HIM FOR THE GOVERNMENT FAILURE. O Lord I pray for Mother Ghana, that you reduce the number of FOOLISH VOTERS in 2016. Father the small number that will be left, wash their faces with sea sand so that they would be able to see the predicament they have put Ghana in through their foolish action, and change for the better. I pray that you let them vote this USELESS and CLUELESS GOVERNMENT out. Let those who these FOOLISH VOTERS envy because they are prospering as a result of which they vote foolishly so that they will be equal with them prosper even more. Father let those who are sympathetic to these USELESS VOTERS stop giving them money when they come begging, so that they will realize 'Ghana is hard', and vote wisely this time round. Lord, there are too many office to office beggars in Ghana, that is a sign of poverty, kick those who encourage this out of office. If this so called LMVCA really believes in constitutional democracy and the rule of law and respects the 1992 Constitution, then they should tell the whole world, where in the constitution is there a requirement by the President to consult LMCA, the youth, civil society organisations and political parties prior to appointing the EC? The president is only required to consult the Council of State but nothing more nothing less as far as the person appointed meets the requirements set out in the constitution.

This is the same call made by deluded and self seeking interest retired Justice Emile Short, the former CHRAJ Commissioner. This sort of behaviour is an attempt by these deluded individuals and groups to subvert the constitution and to weaken the president's appointing authority for their own interests rather seeking fairness, transparency, or whatever.

For me, what is important is not who is appointed by president Mahama but rather that the person (even if Asiedu Nketia or Kofi Portuphy qualifies to be appointed), once appointed s/he asserts his or her independence from the Executive and all interest groups especially political parties and becomes truly independent.

What is being suggested by the deluded LMVCA group is not even done in the developed democracies.

What processes were followed when the Chief Justice was appointed? Is the Chief Justice not supposed to be the most independent of all the president's appointments? Did the appointing authority not follow the criteria specified in the 1992 Constitution and if so why should it be different this time for the EC? Is it one rule for Chief Justice and another rule for the EC? Were civil society organisations and political parties consulted before the Chief Justice was appointed?

Do not waste our time. Whether you like it or not President Mahama should appoint the next EC BY following the criteria set out in the 1992 Constitution and LMVCA go to hell.

I think the group has gotten it all wrong. If the constitution grants the president to appoint a new EC and did not in anyway suggest that the president should consult the public, then you have mo case any action you take may be highly unlawful. If you have a problem against the constitutional provision, the lawful thing is to initiate a process to repeal or amend it. I guess the group can contribute to the growth of the economy if they divert their energies into something more productive and healthful, than issuing threat which may be borne out of pure youthful exuberance.

LMVCA and groups or persons like them are busying themselves for and about nothing. The truth is that our electoral system is practically foolproof to any machinations by the EC boss.
During an election, the EC boss sits in Accra in the so-called strongroom just to receive electoral figures originating from the polling stations. Once the electoral figures from the polling stations are accepted as the true figures counted, what is left is to collate these figures for a national result.
The EC actually has no hand in the declaration of constituency results for MPs. He only announces the national figure in the declaration of the president-elect; he does not generate the figures.
Every person who is interested can counter tabulate his/her own figures to check if the right thing is being done. That was why all the many observers of our 2012 election were satisfied that the true winner was declared by the EC boss.
NPP is going to make a big issue about the appointment of a new EC boss because they still want someone to believe that Afari Gyan robbed their presidential candidate in 2012. But anybody who understands our electoral process knows the EC boss cannot change the figures without its obvious detection -- at least by one of the numerous local and international observers.
Our electoral system was what the Nigerians copied and it was so successful. It is indeed a very wise thing to count the results at the polling stations. At that level, the national picture is unknown so if any party protests about an issue, making corrections if found necessary, can be done peacefully. Thus if the polling station figures are acceptable, there is nothing to complain about except if the arithmetics are inaccurate. In all these, the EC boss has a little role to play.

Whilst praising the framers of the 1992 Constitution for a good job done,it is my humble opinion that empowering the president to appoint the electoral commissioner is not the best alternative.Who will not appoint somebody who will reciprocate a kind gesture in the near future by tilting electoral results as a pay back?
If we can leave it to the commission's internal succession process with ratification by the legislature,we will be set at ease about the presidential and parliamentary elections and results.
Also to make formidable the divide between the various branches of government,monetary disbursements to the legislative body and the judiciary should be taken out of the reach of the executive branch.The Bank of Ghana can exercise this function so the executive will not take the wind out of the sail of either the legislature or judiciary financially through disbursement delays or under-budgeting.Hamstrung them.
This means that the governor of the Bank of Ghana cannot be appointed by the president.Their appointment can also be done through internal succession and parliamentary confirmation.
There is also the urgent need to block access to the legislative body by the executive by outlawing the appointment of parliamentarians as cabinet ministers,in order to avoid rubber stamping of executive actions and sycophancy.
