(1) projects for which the previous loans were procured never got completed,
(2) there is no defined and disclosed payment terms, i.e., amount, rate, and number of months to pay; and
(3) there is no defined outline of strategy to pay off these loans.
Mr. Seth Terkper may be smiling but he has joined the club of men like Dr. Kwesi Botchwey whose wrong decisions have hurt the nation for three decades. Botchwey claimed to be a Marxist Socialist and thought that the white man owed us money and hence they would borrow and not worry about paying back.
That was almost 30 years ago and Dr. Kwesi Botchwey is still alive whiles the Ghanaian currency has seen a devaluation of 571 times or 57,143% [40,000 today /70 in 1981].
And these people still keep deceiving ordinary Ghanaians that our Economy has grown and making false utterances with fake figures.
Oh! Ghana! why did a nation of such nice people with a talented pool of human resources scattered around the globe end up like this?
We have thieves making decisions and the IMF and World Bank deliberately using these loans to prop up our nation's elected dictatorial one-man-show leaders to give free access to the Western powers to come and take Ghana's resources for next to nothing. $918 million is a small amount compared to what the Western nations' corporate bodies stand to gain annually with their highway-robbery contracts our leaders don't even read when they sign. Reports are that Ghana gets only 10-12% of our oil proceeds, and for that what is $918 to tie our hands!
This is what our elders had a proverb that "okwasea na yetia ne shoa so mprenu" - it is the fool who allows his balls to be stepped on twice!
It is sad day for Ghana! Whiles taking the loans it is reported the Chinese have given us more loans and they chose to build Regional Airports for us. The prices are inflated 10-100 times so the party in power takes the rest and puts in their coffers for election campaign spending. What a shame!!And the opposition is unable to sue for disclosure and accountability because they themselves did similar things involving inflated loan figures fraud and uncompleted projects using financial fraud.
And our people keep watching not knowing what to do!!
