I think it is the Electoral Commission that has to be independent but not the individual who is heading it.I am saying this because you can never satisfy everybody in politics.In Nigeria and Ivory Coast for example,they have what we call Independent Electoral Commission which makes it clear that the Commissioner is also an independent individual.In Ghana's case the Constitution stipulates that only the President has the mandate to appoint the Chairman.I totally disagree with Mr Short's suggestion that the President should be mindful of the sentiments around the recommendation of the constitution review committee in making the appointment.Namaly,these recommendations have not yet been passed into laws.Therefore,they are mere suggestions;they are void and null before the court of law.It's unfortunate for Mr Short to make such a vague statement.Let us abide by the constitution or amend it now.Thank you.
