If Dr. Bawumia is suggesting that at the end of December 2008 Ghana's economy was the best it can ever hope to be and a nation with zero outstanding foreign debt then I think Dr. Bawumia drank one too many porridge/"kokoo". Secondly, it is precisely because the Kufour administration overspent by implementing politically short-sighted social programs (School feeding program, NYEP and others) without sustainable funding sources along with the outstanding debts (including but not limited to the Woyome saga) that subsequent government has to go borrowing.

Dr. Bawumia should also know, if he learnt anything worthwhile about effective governance, while studying in Canada that executive branch of governments do not have the power to spend money; they are checked by wise legislative branch of government. And it is because we have his kind of educated but unwise clowns in parliament who choose to shirk their responsibilities to their respective districts and the nation that we have allowed the executive branch of governments past and present to overspend.

President John Mahama cannot spend money members of Ghana's parliament have not appropriated and if that were not the case then that, Dr. Bawumia, should be the source of your anger; a worthless constitution that grants unchecked powers to the office of the presidency.

The economy certainly is not down to the level of HIPC status when you and the NPP ruled Ghana for eight years. It's easy to keep heap blame and criticism on the government, but you Bawumia needs to take a look back at your party's eight years in office and tell us if you can justify why the country was in HIPC status. Many countries across the globe are experiencing economic challenges, and that does not necessarily mean that those governments are not doing the right things to confront those challenges.
