Don't mind them. Ghana hasn't and I repeat, has not granted any exploration right to any of the licensed companies under her banner in the disputed zone yet. In fact, it was Ivory Coast who felt threatened by the close proximity of the oil companies working under the flag of Ghana to what they believed is their territorial waters and started issuing warning to the companies involved instead. What the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) did is exactly what Ghana asked of them.
The Ivorian had wanted the ongoing activity at the TEN field to stop until the case is sorted out. Well, they didn't get their way and Ghana was rather given the go ahead to develop it TEN field through Tullow oil company. The Eni's Sankofa and Gye Nyame fields, Tullow's Jubilee field as well as lukoil's Dzata field are all far away from the disputed zone. So, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko and his gang of traitors and so-called lawyers can go and burn the sea now.
below is what Tullow Oil Plc, wrote on her webpage wall after the ruling;
Tullow Oil PLC was handed positive news Saturday when an international tribunal ruled against suspending all petroleum operations in an offshore zone that is under dispute between Ghana and Ivory Coast.
However, Tullow in a statement said it will await instructions from the Ghana government on implementing provisional measures ordered by the International Tribunal of the Law of the Sea, which ruled that Ghana could continue the $4.9 billion (3.2 billion pound) development, but not engage in new exploration.
The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, or ITLOS, ruled that no new drilling either by Ghana or under its control could take place in the disputed area. However, Tullow has already completed the drilling required for oil to flow next year from the development.
“Following this ruling, the TEN project can move ahead and we will now await instructions from the Government of Ghana with regard to implementing those provisional measures that have been ordered by ITLOS,” a Tullow spokesman said.
The Tullow-led development of the TEN offshore oil fields is expected to add to the company’s cash flow and profits. The $4.9 billion development is expected to produce up to 80,000 barrels of oil a day.
Ivory Coast, which neighbors Ghana, had asked for the international tribunal to force Ghana to suspend all exploration and development in the disputed area. Final judgment on the case is expected late 2017.

If eventually the final ruling goes our way, all well and good but if it goes against us, depending on the nature of the contract we have with tullow, we would have spent money developing the sites for ivory coast to take, losing hundreds of millions in the process. The ruling is not a victory at all but just an option which allows us to continue development of the site. The question of whether we are developing it for ourselves or the Ivorians will only be answered at a later date. We all wish Ghana to be declared the rightful owners but we have to take all factors into consideration so that we can make the best decision. Not just the legal one but the economic one as well.

I read tsatsu's analysis and that of our legal team and the impression they gave me was this is a straightforward legal case based on convention. But these two lawyers educated us to realise that there are 2 schools of thought when it comes to such conventions. we are relying on one whilst the ivorians are relying on the other. They went on to cite cases which outlined previous cases and how the different conventions played a part. They clearly outlined the importance of dialogue between the parties and warned against taking anything for granted as it could be very costly. I feel we should listen to different views as they can only enlighten us even if we don't like the messenger

These Ghanaian lawyers know nothing about International Law of the Sea, yet they talk as if they wish Ghana to lose the case. The interim ruling was expected from what Ghana has been saying all along. In fact, the ruling is such that, the final decision is highly likely to be in favour of Ghana. This is because, oil is irrecoverable and therefore once exploited it's gone forever and if there was any any shred of evidence that Ivory Coast had a strong case, at least some of the reliefs they sought would have been granted until the final determination of the case and not only one. The ruling is an indication that the evidence so far presented, the submissions made and the law as it stands favour Ghana. I am confident Ghana will have the last laugh and the doomsayers will be ashamed.

Both sides of our Aisle could be guilty of this. But it is the NPP that had been at the brunt of that accusation, usually linked to the story of how her ancestral Party, the UP/NLM went to the UK to plead for the suspension of our Independence.
Recent behavior of Akufo-Addo in which he Publicly expressed his support for Ouattara in the Ivorian Civil War also worryingly suggest a certain continuation of the UP/NLM alliance with the French Imperialist protégés in the Ivory Coast. This might be a source of genuine concern for other Ghanaians that if Akufo-Addo were in Power, he would easily cut a deal to share our Oil Resources with the Ivorians and not fight to retain our legitimate claim to the Deposits.
Yes, yes. I know how Akufo-Addo's supporters might come out blazing insults on me for this comment. But these are cogent fears I pick up from many strongly patriotic Ghanaians regarding how we remain vulnerable to the exploitative tendencies of some Western influences.

The best and probably the only ruling that may come from the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) in 2017 or 18 would be a joint project between the sisterly nation to develop the disputed zone together and share the riches rather than going to war over the territory. In fact, there is no way Ivory Coast is going to win the case over Ghana due to the very clear-cut demarcation in that particular zone in question, hence the reason Ghana is ticked as having a strong case.

Their wish was to have judgement against us so they can have something to discuss about for this week. They would be called on radio to churn out pure lies just to discredit the A-G. For the information of all, the Ivorians relied heavily on newspaper results from Ghana to fight their case. Surely, we may have to exercise restraint. I have always suspected a certain favoritism from the International Arbitration for the Ivory Coast, in the very least. And I strongly believe that had we not already contracted Western Companies from the UK and the USA to drill our Oil, the adjudication would have been skewed to fully favor Ivory Coast.
We should not lose sight of the fact that France possibly could be silently behind the Ivory Coast claim as well. The recent spate of French philanthropy to Ghana and some of our Institutions suggests the former might be doing so to cover up her possible prodding of the Ivory Coast in that issue with Ghana. France is not a neutral spectator in this case.
Ghana must do all she can to fully repel the Ivorian Claims. Ouattara is no real friend of Ghana's, and has an exceptionally high ambition to bully his way to restore the Ivorian Economic luster lost in her Civil War at the expense of Ghana.
We should not let Ouattara's special closeness to the West deter us from repelling his rapacious grab for Power and glory.

Article 15 of UNCLOS on the Delimitation of the territorial sea between States with opposite or adjacent coasts states: "Where the coasts of two States are opposite or adjacent to each other, neither of the two States is entitled, failing agreement between them to the contrary, to extend its territorial sea beyond the median line every point of which is equidistant from the nearest points on the baselines from which the breadth of the territorial seas of each of the two States is measured. The above provision does not apply, however, where it is necessary by reason of historic title or other special circumstances to delimit the territorial seas of the two States in a way which is at variance therewith."
Three principles in this law are: "equidistance", "history" and "mutual agreement" and Ghana's case is based on these principles. Since the land boundary is not in dispute, drawing the equidistant median between the two countries into the sea to determine the boundary is simple geometry.
Secondly, Ghana and Ivory Coast had long accepted this equidistant line as their maritime boundaries since independence until now and this covers the principles of "history" and "mutual agreement".
What Ivory Coast hopes to use, I suspect, is solely the principle of "equity" but equity is usually applicable when the equidistant median is such that it leaves one party with little or no maritime territory. Here, Ivory Coast has large maritime territory with vast resources even more than Ghana so this cannot apply.

What is prominent about these 3 lawyers?.Are they not aware that Ivory Coast could build a strategy from the legal technicalities detailed by them, against Ghana ! They are supposed to know the appropriate channel to voice out their concerns.
Now, since its not a matter of pending new demarcations,if Im right, lets rest the theories of perpendicular, equidistant, etc to apply a more
practicable sense. Something acceptable to both Ghana, and Ivory Coast since the existence of both Countries. And that is : Often one hears a Vessel is in another Country's Waters. So,let put a Vessel on the Sea from Ivory Coast to Ghana; b'cos IC is disputing the Site.
Now,the question is,at which point on the Sea is the Vessel, said to be out of Ivory Coast Waters ?.And at which position,is the Vessel in Ghana Waters ?
Has that Changed ?. If No,what is the problem ; huh Quattara ?.
Is the exploration and drilling by Ghana within the Vessel example cited? If this simple logics is anything to go by,what Ghana may divide with Ivory Coast should be a 'no man's Sea' between the two Countries,if any.
Again, the towns and villages along the Cape three points,if any,are these for Ghana or Ivory Coast .
Again,it's a stretch of Sea part is developed,or work is in progress and part is not. So,it's just fair for the tribunal to rule that, work in progress should Continue, whilst they take a decision on the other, after years of huge investment by Ghana.Ivory Coast didn't know then that the area was for thm. Just asking ;Since when did Quattara know that is for them ?. When his ancestors were in Bukina,or when they came to Ivory Coast !

THe question nobody has addressed is this: Is GHana bound by the ruling of ITLOS?
My view is that we have gone to court to strengthen our position by law.
However, if we do not get what we want, then we can choose to assert our right to the territory by force. In other words, if persuasion fails, force prevails.
After all, we did not start the dispute, the Ivorians did. They have made a rod for their own backs.
