The Association Of Traditional Rulers should be the vanguard of our traditional values which every ruler should be of a member and make it clear to our stupid neo-colonial politicians that the favoring of foreign deities over African deities WON'T BE TOLERATED and they won'y take it laying down low, and should boycott all 6 March celebrations, and admonish them anytime they the politicians come to any traditional festival to sell themselves.
We are the custodians of our traditional values and legitimately have more to say on its restoration and NOT those who believed in European values. Strange foreign values have rendered us useless and vulnerable.

Ghana is a plural society: we must not forget that. The act of pouring libation is a very important cornerstone of our Ghanaian culture.

No external influence, -- not even that of our former colonial masters, came even close to abolishing it.

It is not strange or new to the world that, we Ghanaians uphold the values bestowed upon us from colonial rule, and those of our ancestors at all public gatherings. In fact the world greatly admires us for our plural values. This therefore begs the question:

What is it, with this president?

He is constantly making a mockery of the presidency. It looks like the NPP is giving him all the ropes in the world to hang himself: come election day. How sad!

Honestly showing the world who we are traditionally has never stood in our path to socio-economic prosperity, and it never will. It is the act of cloaking ourselves in borrowed robes that will stand in our way for socio-economic prosperity. Because it makes us less than genuine in the eyes of foreign investors.

I sincerely implore the president to start putting on his thinking-cap.

As far as I'm concerned, he is not helping his chances for re-election.

Ghana’s former President, Flt. Lt Jerry John Rawlings, has expressed concern about the “lightheaded” manner religious, social and political matters are portrayed by sections of the media.

He said the practice has contributed to dehumanize and make Ghanaians superficial. “We are doing too much politics with the truth,” he stated.

“Some of us have very little understanding into human nature or into the power of God and yet we want to propagate issues to do with God and godliness and we are reducing the substance and spiritual essence in our humanity,” the former President said at a meeting with the leadership of the Afrikania Mission in Accra on Tuesday.

The formerPresident described as perpetuation of decay, the situation where the mediahighlight shallow discourse on religion, politics and social issues especially on radio and television. “For the average mind once the TV or radio station carries it then it’s okay. The lightheadedness of what we see or what we hear is degrading us.”

President Rawlings also took a swipe at the NDC for re-invigorating the class structure. “We the liberators [NDC] have ended up perpetuating a class rule in this country. The PNDC/NDC came to liberate us but the same NDC from Mills’ time to now have ended up restoring and perpetuating the class structure.”

The PNDC, the former President said, was an expression of the will of the people. “As the Head of State and leader I was not unaware of the aspirations and sensibilities of our people. When somebody wants to replace our culture with another then it better be good and better than what we have but in the name of freedom of worship and expression all manner of foolish things are allowed.”

Flt Lt Rawlings recalled that in 1979 having read an article by Bishop Sarpong recognizing the value of libation, he invited him to join the AFRC. He said he was impressed that an orthodox Catholic priest could recognize the value of libation but the Catholic hierarchy at the time declined the request.

“We should show a little more sense, a little more responsibility when it comes to our relationship with God. What is important is that religion must show a sense of compassion, love and respect for one another. But to take a position that disrespects issues to do with our ancestors is not good enough,” the former President said.

Earlier the Afrikania Mission, led by its Head of Mission, Osofo Komfo Atsu Kove had expressed disquiet about the relegation of African traditional religion at the national level. They bemoaned the refusal of government to allow pouring of libation at national events and said it was a clear manifestation of the authorities’ lack of reverence for our ancestors.

The Mission said despite several entreaties to resume the pouring of libation at national events because it is our culture, government has for the past eight years turned adeaf ear. Government’s action is provocative and tacitly endorses the attack on traditional shrines and icons by adherents of imported religion, the Mission stated.

The Afrikania Mission said it was unfortunate that at a time when questions are being raised about the lack of recognition of certain religious practices in schools, African traditional religion is described as pagan, idol worship and backward in textbooks.

The group said it was imperative that we sowed seeds of religious tolerance while respecting the right of adherents of African traditional religion to practice their culture.

Freddie blay Chief Executive Officer of Western Publications Limited, owners of the Daily Guide Newspaper, Freddie Blay, has told Citi News, the paper will not render any apology to the general secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for publishing false information about him.

The paper was last week found liable for defaming Johnson Asiedu Nketia in a publication suggesting that he used his position as general secretary of the governing party to enrich himself and his family members.

The paper was directed to pay GHC250,000 to Mr. Asiedu Nketia by the court. Speaking to Citi News, Mr. Blay maintained that the paper still stands by its publication.

He described the case as “one of the worst cases that I have come across. It’s so bad and I don’t believe that thing should have gone to court and we refuse to render any apology.”

Mr. Blay revealed that his outfit will challenge the decision of the court saying, “we have appealed against it and I think that judgement shouldn’t have gone the way it went.”

They aroused my anger by burning incense to and worshiping other gods that neither they nor you nor your ancestors ever knew. 4 Again and again I sent my servants the prophets, who said, ‘Do not do this detestable thing that I hate!’ 5 But they did not listen or pay attention; they did not turn from their wickedness or stop burning incense to other gods. 6 Therefore, my fierce anger was poured out; it raged against the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem and made them the desolate ruins they are today.

7 “Now this is what the Lord God Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Why bring such great disaster on yourselves by cutting off from Judah the men and women, the children and infants, and so leave yourselves without a remnant? 8 Why arouse my anger with what your hands have made, burning incense to other gods in Egypt, where you have come to live? You will destroy yourselves and make yourselves a curse[a] and an object of reproach among all the nations on earth. 9 Have you forgotten the wickedness committed by your ancestors and by the kings and queens of Judah and the wickedness committed by you and your wives in the land of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem? 10 To this day they have not humbled themselves or shown reverence, nor have they followed my law and the decrees I set before you and your ancestors.

11 “Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I am determined to bring disaster on you and to destroy all Judah. 12 I will take away the remnant of Judah who were determined to go to Egypt to settle there. They will all perish in Egypt; they will fall by the sword or die from famine. From the least to the greatest, they will die by sword or famine. They will become a curse and an object of horror, a curse and an object of reproach. 13 I will punish those who live in Egypt with the sword, famine and plague, as I punished Jerusalem. 14 None of the remnant of Judah who have gone to live in Egypt will escape or survive to return to the land of Judah, to which they long to return and live; none will return except a few fugitives.”

15 Then all the men who knew that their wives were burning incense to other gods, along with all the women who were present—a large assembly—and all the people living in Lower and Upper Egypt, said to Jeremiah, 16 “We will not listen to the message you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord! 17 We will certainly do everything we said we would: We will burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and will pour out drink offerings to her just as we and our ancestors, our kings and our officials did in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. At that time we had plenty of food and were well off and suffered no harm. 18 But ever since we stopped burning incense to the Queen of Heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have had nothing and have been perishing by sword and famine.”

19 The women added, “When we burned incense to the Queen of Heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, did not our husbands know that we were making cakes impressed with her image and pouring out drink offerings to her?”

20 Then Jeremiah said to all the people, both men and women, who were answering him, 21 “Did not the Lord remember and call to mind the incense burned in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem by you and your ancestors, your kings and your officials and the people of the land? 22 When the Lord could no longer endure your wicked actions and the detestable things you did, your land became a curse and a desolate waste without inhabitants, as it is today. 23 Because you have burned incense and have sinned against the Lord and have not obeyed him or followed his law or his decrees or his stipulations, this disaster has come upon you, as you now see.”

24 Then Jeremiah said to all the people, including the women, “Hear the word of the Lord, all you people of Judah in Egypt. 25 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: You and your wives have done what you said you would do when you promised, ‘We will certainly carry out the vows we made to burn incense and pour out drink offerings to the Queen of Heaven.’

“Go ahead then, do what you promised! Keep your vows! 26 But hear the word of the Lord, all you Jews living in Egypt: ‘I swear by my great name,’ says the Lord, ‘that no one from Judah living anywhere in Egypt will ever again invoke my name or swear, “As surely as the Sovereign Lord lives.” 27 For I am watching over them for harm, not for good; the Jews in Egypt will perish by sword and famine until they are all destroyed. 28 Those who escape the sword and return to the land of Judah from Egypt will be very few. Then the whole remnant of Judah who came to live in Egypt will know whose word will stand—mine or theirs.

29 “‘This will be the sign to you that I will punish you in this place,’ declares the Lord, ‘so that you will know that my threats of harm against you will surely stand.’ 30 This is what the Lord says: ‘I am going to deliver Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt into the hands of his enemies who want to kill him, just as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the enemy who wanted to kill him.’”

Ghanaians, please remember what the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana said: We are trading our indigenous CULTURE for foreign culture and lifestyles. If we are not careful, one day in the future, our descendants will be sorry. By then, it will be too late.

Jerry Rawlings, really, you didn't vote? If what is being reported by the Daily Guide paper is true, why do you want people to listen to anything you say in political realm. As an ex-President, you should know that it is important that citizens do exercise their civil responsibility to vote in election times in order to get a good governing body. For you to fail to exercise your civil responsibility demonstrate how irresponsible you can be and yet want us, Ghanaians, to see you as a statesman, leader and somebody who matters in Ghanaian politics. That is unfortunate.
