  Imposing IAT on crude palm oil (cpo) will be retrogressive, especially at time that Ghana is a net importer of the commodity.This is the position of the Oil Palm Development Association of Ghan (OPDAG), the umbrella body representing.It will inflate prices of FMCG like vegetable cooking oil, soaps, margarine and other palm based products. The FMCG businesses could shrink and suppliers of their raw material i.e. smallholder and large scale oil palm plantation will have no buyers for their fruits and oil respectively. The way forward is to progress the oil palm master plan (MOFA 2012) so as to close the supply-demmand gap. Only then will IAT on CPO make sense.
